Default My SS neck and neck with bolt-on firebird.

Why did the firebird formula with full bolt-ons keep with me the whole time. He didnt even have a cam. He has 2:73 gears also. Both cars are automatic. He was auto shifting tho keeping it in first at 40 and then goin into second. The only reason he was able to do this is becuase he has the highway gears in the back. I thought i would pull on him but we kept neck and neck.

Damn man...get a wideband on there and tune that thing. You are leaving a good amount on the table without a good tune...even my bolt-on only car responded well to tuning. I've made 79 changes and counting from my stock tune, and I don't even have an automatic tranny to worry about.

at 40 mph a 2.73 geared car will hit its powerband extremly fast, but then after 70 or 80, u should of pulled him thou.

Did you have your car in 2nd when yall took off from 40? Only reason you shouldnt have smoked his *** is if you spun other than that you should have got him bad...

It's the corkmaster jk. You are probably running way rich and have a restrictive muffler.

isn't a formula a little lighter? 200 pounds? Reguardless, you should have pulled him either way.

Maybe a few, not 200 lbs.

well my exhaust needs to be redone. It goes from hooker lt's to 3" y to 2.5 after the cat into the mufller, then out 2.5 into a 2.5 reducer to 2 1/4 so the tips would fit. Thats prolly restrictive...Especially like u said the corkmaster exhasut and on top of that i think its a 80 series. i guess HP Tuners just wont cut it for a tune. I must pay the piper for a real tune now.

yea we ran it from a dig about 4 times
i get him from 30 but from 50 to 100 we were even. He leaves his car in first to about 45 and powershifts his auto with 2:73 gears. What a combo.

Sounds like you hit the nail on the head. May want to look at the exhaust before the dyno tune. (Cork master, ha) Curious though that a "bolt on" Formula with 2.73s was dead even with you. Just based on your 3.73s, converter, heads, and cam, his bolt-ons should only have been helping him not fall behind as quickly. What kind of 'bolt ons' did he have (that you know of)? Did he have the new LS6 intake from the factory? What year Formula?

You should have been able to outrun him with your stock heads and cam with your gears, converter, and other bolt ons. Sounds like the car actually got slower after the H/C swap. The computer could be comping for something it doesn't like?
