Default Me vs my buddy (video)

Quick info:

My buddies car is a Datsun 240Z with a RB20DET inline 6 turbo motor swapped in. Before I bought my Camaro, I had a 240z with a SR20DET inline 4 turbo motor in it. The SR20DET is an all aluminum 4 banger with a decent sized turbo stock, mine was boosting 300hp, and dyno'd 252whp and 256tq.

The RB motors have ironblocks, so it's fairly heavy. But make considerable amount more torque. Anywho, he doesn't have as much put into it as I had with my old Z... so he's still a bit down on power.

His mods include, Turbo-back 3" exhaust, Front mount Intercooler and electronic boost controller.

My mods: Lid, K&N, some random pulley, hurst shifter, spec 3, magnaflow catback.

Here's the video:

Hope ya'll enjoy.

Good kill Matty. I'm glad to hear that the spec 3 clutch isn't chattering as much anymore. I hope you get some new track times in November w/ your car.

What did your 240 run? My first car(the formy is my second) was a B15 Sentra with the SR20DE. Thought about getting the JDM SR20DET but I knew I was getting the Formula so I didn't, but I now know someone with with the SR20DET setup in a 240 and was wondering if it's as fast as he claims it is. He says it runs 13.1 at 114mph because he spins like crazy.

Cool races though and congrats on the LS1 upgrade which do you feel is quicker, the stock LS1 or your modded SR20?

To be honest, the 240z with the SR20DET swapped in, (custom swap) felt faster. Mainly cause it was lighter. Was definately quicker out of the hole. 3.90 gears and lightweight, by about 1000lbs... seriously the car was like 2300lbs with my *** in it.

The Camaro has the better topend though, just do to overall higher horsepower and torque. Between the two cars, the 240z was faster. In a 1/4 mile race between the two the Z would win. But from any sort of highway run, it'd run out of breath where the LS1 would just grin and ask for more.

My buddies 240z with the RB20DET should be good for low 14s to high 13s. Stock the 240z would run about low 16s, high 15s if you could get the old school 4 speed manual to shift fast enough.

And the RB20DET never came in twin turbo, you're thinking of the RB26DETT.

I actually want another 240z, and I'd like to do a RB26DETT. With just upped boost, exhaust and intercooler, which would put it at about 450hp (stock they're rated at 287hp, but like the LS1 was underrated they really put out 310-350hp depending on the year), with that it would probably run mid to high 12s. Possibly faster, my SR20DET in my old 240z Gtech'd at 13.4 @ 106mph. It could of went faster, but I had a 200lbs passenger and when I gteched it, it was the first time I'd driven the car in two months due to some minor set backs. Needless to say, I forgot how to launch my own car. lol

My motor put down 252whp and 256wtq, which is about 300bhp at the crank. It roughly had the same power to weight ratio as a C5 Z06, and I could hang with one to about 75-80mph then they just left me behind like I was a stock Civic. lol

So, I'm assuming with my average driving the RB26DETT with minor tweaks could get me mid 12s.
