Default To Kill a Snake...

Lightly modded Cobra's can pull low 12's. What does it take to get a 6M LS1 F-body in the 11's? mod/moneywise? Sorry, not a kill story, just wondering what all it takes for you F-body guys out there to hit 11's in an LS1?

all the normal bolt-ons, and a Cam.

Longtube Headers
Exhaust
LS6 intake manifold (if it's not a 2001-02)
Lid
Ported Throttlebody

and a Cam around or over 224/224

oh yeah, and some tires to hook up. If not, heads might be able to get you close on street tires

So...about 2K worth of parts plus install? What about a 9", would a 10-bolt stand up to tires and a 6-speed with those mods?

Thats the only Cobra in recent history worth mentioning other than the 93 (which was recorded to run mid 13's with bumped timing, shortbelt, tires) the others until 03 just sucked...

Ya I'll just take my stock longblock n/a POS home. Show me one 5.0 that has ran what the 4.6 n/a cobras have run on the stock longblock. I was running 13.8 in full street trim when it was completely stock down to tires.

^^ hes right stock longblocked 5L with a full suspension geared and the right driver maybe able to click off high 12s, they arent gonna move like the 96-98 cobra does. i could see an ls1 with a good driver, gears, rear end, lid, full exhaust and a tune being able to hit high 11s with some 60fts.

It's hard to make a direct comparison--for example a used Z28 with 30k miles can be had for about 12-13k. An 03-04 Cobra with 30k miles will usually go for mid 20's. Big price gap!

New vs. new is the same way...the fbody had a base msrp of 22k whereas the Cobras were something like 34k. It's like comparing a GT Mustang to a Cobra.

The fbodies can hold their own for little money though. For high 11's on the cheap you could go with a few bolt-ons and a 100shot. I'm a fan of all motor combos so I'd go with LS1Andrews combo.

My point wasnt to exactly belittle the 96-98 cobras, but only to state that a stock LS1 ALREADY beats them. THis isnt a ford/GM thred, I just want to know what kind of mods it takes to hit 11's in a LS1 and how much $$ they cost. 13.8 in a NA 4V cobra sounds about right with a good driver, congrats.

Nice, I personally saw a 13.1 pass from a MT ET street (new ones) 98 LS1 bone stock except tires and mufflers (corkmasters). A4 stock stall, he had a 150shot, but i dont know what he ran on that. Just curious what 11's took in those cars. not much apparently, lol, kinda makes me want an LS1 but i dont want one with any miles on it so i am outta luck with that and will stick to my fox (which will take a few more mods to hit 11's...lol)

your car sounds good you should be in the 12s right now and and with some more work could see 11s.I ve built a few stangs in my day there not hard to make fast..those 302s can take a lot of abuse.

vert? my car is a hard-top with no T-tops...And it has not been to the strip yet. It is plenty strong though (pulled an S2000 55-95 using 4th gear only/raced a 02 Z28 a4 vert from 65-100 using only 4th gear and lost by 5 cars with him jumping from 1.5 cars back and me waiting till he was = to my door and then not using 3rd caused a huge loss ) but yeah, not ET's yet, will do so when it gets out of the shop from re-paint.

Yeah, the 302 loves abuse and mine LOVES to rev (3" stroke, 4" bore coupled with an X303 cam), yeah, my heads arent that great, but they flow 200cfm intake and 140cfm exhaust, which is apretty much stock LT1 headflow, is it not?

I used truck lower downs upper and that motor would see 7200 rpms all day and that car ran 12.70s.

my car begins REALLY pulling above about 3K and it just freight trains into the rev limiter (6250, or so they say). I just use redline as a shift point...ahhh, the joys of a modded motor. Central Coast Mustang, who build it said it was okay to shift as high as about 6700 or so. So i am def. in the clear at 6250ish.

Cam only LS1s usually make right around 400rwhp, sometimes a little under, sometimes a little over depending on which Cam.
