Is this possible?
There is a guy here in town with a black 99 SS with the superman logo on the hood. He has the following mods
-Stage 3 clutch
-Tranny cooler
-SLP lid
-Magnaflow Exhaust
-Black Corvette ZO6 Rims
-And its been tuned with a hypertech
He claims he ran a 11.97 in the quarter???
Can a 99 SS do an 11.97 with those mods?? If so besides the rims what does that stuff price out to. Cuz I might go with a similar setup, but mine is an auto not the M6.

Approximation here. If he has 325 at the rear wheels, he would have to weigh about 2800 lbs to run an 11.9 sec et and would trap in the 114 range. At 3500 lbs he would need about 405 rwhp to run 11.9 @ 114. If he has less power then he needs less weight to keep up with the physics. More weight, he needs more power. Check out http://www.race-cars.net/calculators/et_calculator.html
Traction and launch have a lot to do with ET but his mph is the quickest way to tell if he is lying, telling the truth, or lying and has done his homework. Ask for a time slip, trap speed or what his 1000 foot #s were. I would guess it might run more like 12.9 on a good day at a good track with the mods he has mentioned. Maybe you heard wrong.

I agree, 11.97 with only the listed mods and no gutting is not possible...well...HIGHLY HIGHLY unlikely. Unless he is talking about the limited run 427 powered F-bods...i highly doubt he is...

found out some more info from a guy at work. He tells me that he saw him run, and he had DR's and Cam's. So with the DR's and Cam's he should be able to run that 11.97 shouldn't he??? I mean its not like he's running low 11's its pretty much a 12 second car.

OH and the NOS is a positive, but he wasn't sure on how big of a shot he was running. The guys name is Sam, don't know his last name, He works at R&T performance in Peoria IL. He probably knows what he's doing.

lol no i don't think so, it's not that i forgot, it just met the guy driving around town, we were trying to have a conversation while driving, its hard to hear that way. Seth (a guy I work with knows the guy) says he's at the track all the time, he said that the SS is for sale. I will have to stop by R&T and ask the guy whats in his car. That way I can get an accurate story for you.

with a cam only, LS1's can get into the 11's(depending on the cam, of course), so with spray on top of that, then definitely yeah. Not that this information is important anymore...

This guy sounds like he's doing what I do. Tell people you have less mods than you really do. Let them race you and find out what you really have.
It's more fun to say you have a Hypertech tune, Tornado air filter, and Cags.. then to tell them you spent an arm and a leg on your car and it's a serious performer.
He's just yankin your doodle.
