LT1 vs 97 supercharged cobra
While leaving work the other day, i noticed a really loud mustang goin down the street. I didnt really pay it any attention to it because he got so far ahead of me by the time i was able to pull out of work. But luck was on my side that night because he got caught by a light and i was able to pull right behind him. So we make a right hand turn onto Harlem ave (Orland Park) and we end up being stopped at a light right next to each other. Neither of us take off hard, as to cops are everywhere in this area. So we go a little futher down Harlem Ave and as we go over I-80, we get even i drop it to second and i honk three times and we both take off from about a 40 roll.
I had him by a car through second and part of third then he would pull me at the top of third by a car but once i shifted to 4th, i would completely stop his pull. We did it twice with the same result. We talked and his mods were a vortech pushing 6.5 pounds, off road h pipe, a loud mouth catback and a 4.10 gear. My mods are hooker long tubes, off road y, and a loudmouth. It was probably the loudest race ever between the two cars but it was cool to find a quick stang for once and a cool driver.

I wouldn't go calling bs right away people, even a blown cobra can be beat my a good driven LT1. I have seen it with my own eyes. A 94 Z with headers, ORY, flows, A4 and trans go beat a blown 96 cobra with the same mods but 3.73 gears. Especially only running 6.5 LBS of boost. i think this cobra i am talking about was running 8, but of course this was about 3 years ago.

I ran my buddy in his 97 cobra awhile back and absolutley killed him, he got pissed and bought a blower. after he got it we ran and he took me by about 2 cars without the spray, second run I sprayed him and walked him pretty bad though the mods on my z are borla, kooks lt's, bbk 58mm tb, p&p heads, k&n cai, 3.73's, and a 150 shot, sounds like the guy you raced needs a tune

All I know is that we're on the highway (I was shotgun in the Cobra) doing 70 at like 3000 RPM in 5th gear and all our buddies with 2.73's are FLYING past us. There was NO pickup from there up.

I have a 99 Cobra and the stock gears are much too tall. Even with a blower id go with 3.73 or 4.10's. Im stock and my second gear goes to 80, third-125 and Ive seen 145 in 4th with 1000rpms to go. My fifth is like the ls1's 6th, for good gas mileage only.
