Stock '03 M3 VS my '00 z28 6sp w/ lid and LM? Come in help!
I know it's probably been discussed before, but I can't search for "M3" because it's too short to search...
So, I have a '00 hardtop z28 6sp with lid and LM exhaust. Just ran 12.98@110 this past Friday at Capitol.
Friend's car is bone stock '03 6sp m3. I've heard that he does a lot of street racing, so I'd assume he's pretty good with his skills.
We are probably going to race on the highway, so we'll be doing a rolling race, no racing from a dig.
I think I have a pretty good chance of beating him as long as I don't mess up any shifts. What do you guys think?
He might also try to get me by saying that he wants to run to stupid speeds like 150-160mph and I don't want to risk my life over something dumb like this race...
So what do you guys think? Any suggestions or advices? I'm not a big roll racer, I prefer drag racing and I think I'm pretty good with my car, but we don't have a chance to run from a dig. So, what should I be aware of? What speeds/gears should I start with and so on?
Should I put some money on a race as well?
Thanks

I got 2.0 60' out of my $56 Kumhos, so I think I'm pretty good with launching my car, but roll would be a lot easier. I just have to get every gear and I'm set
What do you think my chances are?

I raced one with my A4 (from a 50 MPH roll) and it was pretty much over before it began. I didn't kill him, but I walked away in a hurry. It was a newer model, '03-'04. I love those cars, especially the silver, but the *** driving it gave me the I'm better than you look.....so I showed him how much better he was.

I raced him with everything you see in the sig minus the duals finished out the back...they were currently dumped at the axle. I know I know, it must have killed him to see this cheap, obnoxiously loud domestic piece of crap rip on his M3 that he paid three times as much for, but hey...we have to defend our honor or something like that. Honestly, it was a really nice car. My wife would kill to have one. It was all in fun. And I know they are super nice cars, far superior in quality than my Hawk, just not as fast!

M3's aren't fast. They are agile luxury sports coupes. They weren't designed to be drag racers. Basically as fast as an S2000/350z nothing to worry about if your behind the wheel of an ls1.

I have seen some M3's hit mid 13's at the track......I have seen some go high 14's with a horrible driver. But I agree with Mike00, they aren't really designed to drag race. But they will cruise at an excessive rate of speed for long periods of time very comfortably. You should have no problem taking one down. Like I said, I didn't kill him, but I pulled away fast enough that is was obvious who had who.
