Default 05-06 Saleen

Got done eating dinner last night and was heading home. Merged onto the freeway and and a brand new Saleen slides up next to me. He was cruising at at around 82 so I slowly speed up to pace him. His passenger keeps lookin at me so I'm just waiting for him to go, but no dice. We're cruising at 80+ for about 2-3 miles and all of a sudden he floors it. So I downshift to 4th and take off after him. By this time he's already got about 4 cars on me. By the time we hit about 100 I'm already starting to reel him in. By 115-120 I'm passing him pretty hard. Then I shift to 5th and stay in it till 135 and put about 2-3 cars on him before I shut down. I couldn't hear a blower since my exhaust is pretty loud so I was wondering if you guys think an NA Saleen could keep up that well at higher speeds with me? I've got a 99 FRC with B&B PRT's, magnaflow x-pipe, Blackwing intake, a B&M ripper shifter, and then some appearance mods that don't matter.

Hmmmmmm...

You ran from 80 to 135, him having 4 cars on you to start with, and you ended up pulling 2-3 cars on him. This doesn't sound quite right to me.

Unless you have different rear gears:

1. 80 MPH is a downshift to 3rd, not 4th
2. 4th will damn near take you to 135 by itself, so you really didn't need to shift to 5th.

Sorry man...when someone has that big of a lead to start with, it is hard to pull back.

Taking from muscularmustangs.com

It was just the other day that we gave you a behind the scenes look at what Saleen had in store for the 2006 Mustang, and now today Saleen has officially unveiled them. As we already stated, the 2006 Saleen S281 3 Valve Mustang will have 330hp (340ft lbs torque) which is five more than last year. Other additions to the '06 are 3.73 rear end gears, Saleen front aero ducting, Saleen design quarter window trim, a new shift ****, and two new color combinations; Vista Blue Clearcoat, and Tungsten Grey Clearcoat.

For the S281 Supercharged there will be an increase in hp to 435. Other additions to this model are the same as above except for a 14" braking system that is now standard.

HP wise and aero, you would have him. However 4 cars is a huge lead

No way it was a SC, I'm guessing on the 4 car. Was most likely about 2-3.

Th Saleen S197 sans blower is a turd. One tested actually was SLOWER than the stock GT. Expect them to perform the same as stock with maybe a couple extra tenths more speed and a tad better handling. All in all, I think it sounds about right to me. If you had gone even you are saying it would have been 6+ cars that you pulled on him from 80 to 130. That is roughly 120'. At 120mph(close to the average speed of this race) that is 176 feet per second. You are telling me that had you gone from an even roll at 80 you would have had him by about .7 seconds had someone timed the difference in time at which you arrived at a certain physical point and the time at which he arrived. .7 seconds over 80-130 acceleration. Yes, i think your cars 80 to 130 time is probably at least .7 seconds better than his. Your post looks rather accurate to me.

I'm sure it was a n/a one, with the big wheels + the weight of the add ons its about as fast as a stock GT,if it had 4 cars on you and you reeled him in it wasn't supercharged. You have a bolt on ls1 right?

Yes, just intake and exhaust. Plus it was a convertible with the top down and 2 girls in the car plus guy driver. Forgot to mention that part too.

Evan smith ran a 12.5 at 110 with the sc'ed Saleen at 3.5 psi according to MM&FF.

Motortrend ran a n/a Saleen to a 13.5 at 104.
