300 rwhp SRT4 vrs 370 rwhp 2.73 a4 C5

Default 300 rwhp SRT4 vrs 370 rwhp 2.73 a4 C5

The track opens at 6 pm and starts cacing at 7 pm...

So I get there around 615 and put my car in line for the number 1 spot. open the hood and start letting her kool down.

Im the only one in line but about 5 minutes later this black SRT4 rolls up behind me and lets his car kool down...

I dont think anything of him and start playing ridge racer on my PSP for about 20 minutes..

Then I look in my mirror and see that his engine dosent look bone stock...

I put my game down and go start looking at his engine ( I think the import guys just love it when a vette guy looks at there engine) I usualy just look at there engine because I pity them and want them to feel better about themselves that a v8 would actually take the time to check out there car..

But this was no import..This was an american turboed 4 cylinder who ( in the mainland) can pull 13.9's on perfect days with perfect drivers. Over here they struggle for 14.9 with a few in the 14.7 range bone stock...(OUR TRACK IS TYPICALLY 1500-2500 FT SO RIGHT AROUND 2000) the best nights are 1200 or so DA

So I asked him what she ran....He told me that with 250 at the wheels he was running 102 mph.....

But He had just got the engine tuned and was now 300 rwhp.....

I thought to my self DAYUM....102 at my track is very respectable...

They trapp 93-96 mph over here so 102 is pretty good..
Thats around what my C5 trapped bone stock...102 or 103...

Now he has 50 more rwhp on that 2900 pound car....Man Im about to get my feelings hurt..

So he asked me the same question and I told him 370 rwhp but my gears are only 2.73's so I only trapp around 109...

We both agreed it should be a good race...

But on the inside I was scared....Not so much scared of loosing...I get beat my modified cobras and camaros modified Z06's and Vipers and the trucked in old school muscle cars some times...And Ive also got my fair share of wins...

I WAS SCARED OF LOOSING TO A FREAKIN NEON...PERIOD.

I had a solid 30 minutes to go over the math in my head before we ran..

My car 3250 pounds and 370 rwhp

His car 2900 pounds and 300 fwhp

He had me by 350 pounds but I had him by 70 rwhp...

Giving me about a 35 rwhp advantage taking his weight into consideration...

But surely his gears were MUCH more agressive than my 2.73's leaving me within range for a kill..


For him.....Heck it's a neon. He suppossed to loose to a Vette...If he wins he just got an AWESOME confidence boost and somthing to go to his SRT-4 site and bragg about...

YO DAWG...THOSE VETTES AINT NONTIN MAN...MY NEW STAGE 17 SETUP DESTROYED A VETTE WITH ENGINE WORK YO...THERE A JOKE..

HE PROBALY PAID 65 GRAND FOR THAT CRAP AND GOT KILLED BY MY 20 THOUSAND DOOLAR SRT4 YO....THE MODS ONLY COST ME 2 GRAND TO BEAT HIM.....HA HA HA...THERE SO STUPID TO PAY SO MUCH FOR THOSE SLOW CARS DAWG...HA HA HA HA

For me....no one cares if I beat him....But make no mistake about it. Ill want to kick my cars tire for loosing to of those guys....

So were at the light...

Third yellow and were gone..I pull a crappy 2.24 60 ft and he's right by my door till about 40 mph....Then I put a good 2-3 bus lenghts on him..

The fial ET has me pullin a 2.2 60 vrs his 2.1 and a 13.2 at 108.75 vrs his 14.8 at 96 mph...

Im like OK....Is this guy kidding me...Those are times the stock SRT4's pull at our track...

So we roll back around and do it again..

This time he hangs with me till about 50 mph and then I slowly pull a bus lenght on him till the end of the 1/4...

Final stats....Me 13.2 at 108....Him 13.7 at 102 mph....

I motion for him to come again but he pulled off into the parking lot...

I figured one of two things happened...

1) he was pissed that his car got beat so easily...or

2) that 13.7 was his new best and he wanted to stop and enjoy the moment...

13.7 is a solid second quicker than a stock one here so im guessing it was option number two...

102 mph seems pretty slow for 300 rwhp....But then again 108 or 109 seems pretty slow for 370 rwhp as well....

Well I was just happy that I got to keep my head up and would go get some more kills......TILL i KILLED MY SELF THAT IS..

ran over a nail while I was trying to get him to run again and had a flat tire...

The forum member Nunus tried to help me locate a spare from his buddies to know avail...THANKS NUNUS....

Had to pay 100 bucks to have her towed home.....So in the end...I guess the SRT4 did kill me.

Good kill. That sucks someone dropped a nail on the ground! Also, i didnt know the srt4's were that light- i think they're heavier, and also they're front wheel drive-which is harder to hookup than rear wheel drive. He must have some cash invested if he's really putting that much FWHP down.

Even in ur Altitude i would have thought a 300 Hp neon would Better then 13.7's at the Track..NOne the Less good KIll.. wonder what he was thinking before you He Raced you.. lol. you know how them Import ppl think

Good kill!

What are your mods and why did you decide to stick with the 2.73s when you're pushing 370 RWHP? The reason I ask is when I had my 92, I had some PP Heads, LT4 Hot Cam, boltons, etc...but I still had the stock 2.59s. It ran consistent 12.9s@107-108. I always wished I had upgraded to some 3.73s to see how much it would affect my trap and ET.

ALL ON (THE SAME) DYNO JET SAE CORRECTED...

BONE STOCK..299 RWHP...13.5 AT 103

LS6 STOCK h/C 340 RWHP (TUNED WITH DIABLO SPORT) A FEW 13.2'S AT 106
(RAN ONE 13.19 WITH IT)

LS6 STOCK H/C AND VARARAM AIR INTAKE..345 RWHP..( TUNED WITH DIABLO SPORT)... RAN THREE 13.1'S AT 106.5 LOTS OF 13.2'S

LS6 STOCK HEADS AND TR 224/224 112 563 CAM WITH VARARAM...370 RWHP..( TUNED WITH HP TUNER) 13.0 AT 109 MPH....ONLY BEEN TO THE TRACK WITH IT TWICE...13.2 IS NOW A CRAPPY RUN. HOPING FOR 12.8'S.

13.2'S OFF 2.2 60 FTS LEAVE A LOT OF IMPROVMENT ON THE TABLE.

Metalbeast....Im guessing a 3000 stall..3.73 gears and some nice sticky tires would have me running low 12's around 114 mph.

But the C5 is much more expensive to change gears and converter in than my camaro was.

A week ago my shop who's done all the work on my cam told me that the gears would cost 500 to install and the converter would be 1500 to install..

This isnt including the price of the parts them selves.

So Im planning to them both at once...Even if I got used 3.42's for 500 bucks and a stall for 500 bucks....Im still looking at 1500 for the install...

Were talking a MINUMUM of 2,500 bucks here. And thats only if I go cheapo on the used 3.42's...

Z2k...I think the guy was full of crap....If they really do weigh around 2900 pounds...With 300 fwhp he should ATLEAST be trapping 110 on the manual.

But then again he did seem pretty knowledgeble and was hoping to run 12's.

Also...Were not high up...Were only 50 ft above sea level..

The DA is bad because the island is seriously a tropical rain forest..Seriously.

The weather is usualy 75-85 degrees wich isnt as bad as some places..But the humidity is usaualy 70-80 percent...EVEN WHEN IT'S NOT RAINING..

You seriously see a rainbow every day here cas at any given time throughout the day it's almost guaranteed to be raining some where..

AND SINCE THE ISLAND IS ONLY 30 X 40 MILES THE RAIN AFFECTS THE TRACK BIG TIME.

THE DA WAS 1800 FT WHEN ME AND THE NEON RACED.

Thats only a 2-3 tenth difference from a track at sea level though...

3000 plus is when I really feel sorry for people.

W/ 300 rwhp, either he wasn't getting everything to the ground, or maybe he stopped running the car because something wasn't acting right and taking it down the track would just p*ss him off more. Been there, done that. Good Job though. A little condescending w/ the neon talk but then again... you should check out my latest kill. I've no room to talk ;-)

how do you know most "import" people drive them? I've owned 3 imports and 3 domestics? does that make me a import guy or a domestic? And what does a "Import" driver really mean?
