Default Raced a badass EVO an hour ago

I kept pulling away pretty strong each time, but it was a sweet ride. We kept going from about 50 to 140. I at least got to 140 and let off, he was about 15 cars back and falling further behind. Once we went from about 30 to 100 and it was pretty bad for him. But I like that car.

We spoke, he said he had 400 WHP.

What's the most you can get from the EVO and still have pretty good reliability?

nice kill, my buddy has a 320+awhp 04 evo mr. Right now hes installed a turboback, waste gate acctuator, bov, bigger intercooler and intercooler piping and and ecu flash. Car moves very well, and handles excellent. Id say on a stock short block, you could upgrade the turbo and push around 400-450 awhp without any major problems. Its seems like after that you need to constantly run race gas and engine parts start really getting worn. Also, the tranny (with decent launches) starts having problems and my buddy's 320+ awhp evo eats clutches like crazy. His factory one was gone after 10,000 miles and I forget what one he upgraded to but hes at almost 30K miles now and its starting to slip pretty bad. I could be wrong but thats just what ive seen/heard from my evo buddies. On a side note, one guy is going with an AMS ( i think) stroker kit to make the 2.0 liter a 2.2 liter and push more boost, cant wait till he is finished with it, should be pretty rediculous. Real nice cars and very well built engines though.

The stock turbo dies at about 400whp, The stock shortblock has been pushed to just shy of 700whp only thing done is rodbolts to allow the motor to turn north of 8k rpm safely.

for DD hp i would say about 400 is the max on 91 octane with a good tune and gt35r (~20 psi) a 2.4 stroker would push it to about 450 dd whp on 91 octane (~20 psi)

for race gas hp, the sky is the limit 40+ lbs boost and 121 octane gas can do wonders.

The AMS (Automotosports.com) evo is pushind 800 whp on C16 gas no nitrous and 40lbs boost. 9.48 @ 156mph 1.6X 60'

thats still on a 2.0 block.

what does your car dyno?

Nice race..if you put 15 cars on a 400whp EVO, your car must be scooting. Good kill.

With a 436 stroker he is pushing well north of 500 RWHP, then you add in the auto with the stall.......lightning quick shifts, good shift extension, I can see 15 car lengths. Nice kill!

Definitely nice kill. 400WHP is mean no matter what its in, let alone a pretty light weight Evo.

I think the record for 4G63s here in the satates is the Extreme 1G DSM making 1021HP at the wheels.

Just a question, my buddy is looking at the AMS 2.2 Liter stroker kit (even though its pretty damn expensive) as he has heard negative things about the 2.4 stroker kits made by other companies. I believe he said something along the lines that the crank is garbage in the other kits or cant handle a ton of power without breaking while the AMS kit can? Yea Ive seen a few mags with some EVO's making crazy numbers on race gas on the short block, I just have heard that 400-450 awhp is about the max you should go on a stock block to have it last a long time, upwards of 100K miles. The engines are amazing though, they take a beating and just keep going. Whats your evo putting down right now btw?

You dont need to buy a "kit" to stroke that 4g63. Just buy the block out of an older mitsu (mine was in a 95 Galant ES) and build it like any other 4g6x series motor.

AMS has a 2.3 and 2.4 L kit the only company with a 2.2 is JUN and it has a custom billet crank.

The 2.3 uses a 4g63 block and 4g94 crank and the 2.4 is a Complete 4g94 shortblock out of a galant.

a local shop has a 702 whp stock short block motor that has been runing since 2003 and dosn't burn a drop of oil.

I just dynoed 388awhp 372awtq on 91 octane and 1 bottle of Torco Additive. @ 23 lbs of boost.
