Well, I got into a race with a Ford Lightning tonight. It was pretty interesting. I drive up to the light (I'm in the merge lane) and he is in the middle lane. I notice he has some cool looking side exhaust and some type of gauges inside. Anyway, I didn't really want to race in the merge lane, because it ends and turns a bit. Well, he doesn't floor it off the line and I pass him. We get up to about a 40 or so roll and he gets next to me. He hits it, then I do. At first we were neck and neck then he pulled a little bit and got about a half a car ahead of me. (no more than that, I could not see his rear lights at any point) Once we hit 3rd gear, I pull back a little bit, then it gets even again with him a half a car in front. He shut down at about 85. It looked like I was starting to pull him the faster we went, but it's hard to tell. Anyway, we get the next light and he gave me a thumbs up and told me to roll my window down. I talked to him and he asked me what I had done. I told him bolt ons. He said he has a pulley, chip, tune and exhaust. I don't know how much that helps his car, but I said sounds good man, nice run. The light turns green and we go from about a 20 roll. I hit it and spun a bit, but he started to spin worse. I got ahead a little more than a full car length and it stayed about that way if not me edging a little further. (it was hard to tell, because we didn't race to that high of a speed) I'll tell you this though, his supercharger was so loud. That thing was whinning and it sounded pretty cool.

So, what do you guys think? How fast should that thing be?

How fast should it be? Well, it SHOULD be fast enough to wipe the floor w/ a LT1 w/ full bolt ons. When I had full bolt ons from a 40 roll to about 100, my buddies 03 Lightning wiped the road w/ me. But sounds like a legit story, good kill.

As for the story, the lightning should have pulled you pretty well with those mods but stranger things have happened. Lightnings pull really hard from a dig.

My buddies 04 Lightning with the same mods minus the pulley swap is weak as hell. However, I seen a bone stock Lightning run a 13.5 againest me at the track last weekend.

I'm not lieing about the story at all and my g/f was with me. (He wasn't with anyone else) She is the one that told me how close I was to him. I was looking a bit myself, but was concentrating more on the road. I'm really shocked about the race and if you lay the numbers down, he should have killed me. It was such a good race though. When we went from that low roll, he started spinning pretty good, which is why I went out in front. If we both had awesome traction from a 20 roll, I bet it would be a hell of a race.

I thought "stock" lightnings put down about 340Rwhp? How could I possibly match up? The story is legit and I don't think he would lie about his mods. Also, when I told him I just had bolt ons, he said: "yeah, bolt ons huh?" I think he was a little shocked.

A 40 roll is a really bad point for an LT1 A4. That is the beginning of 2nd gear for me. I have no power. Did you ever race your friend from a dig? Was your friends lightning stock? If so and you raced from a dig at the track, it should have been a really close race. I believe stock lightnings run 13.6-13.8 some faster. Although, that is pretty much where a full bolt on LT1 should be at. I can't see how he wiped the road with you, unless he had a pretty good amount of mods.

All the L's I ran against at the track were low 13 sec. vehicles. Just a reference. There's faster and slower of course.

yeap, I have seen them run all day long 13.6-13.8 depending on weather conditions;bone stock at the track. As far as running the 13.5, a freak for sure if it's truely bone stock.

With his mods (lightning), he could run low 13s to high 12s easily on street tires.

you will need a 100 shot of juice to take him.

I meant to put in my post: "not that you are saying I'm lieing." I guess I forgot an important part that made me seem like I was getting defensive. I'm not, and I know you never said it didn't happen.


grey03mach1 If you read what I first posted I already raced him. It was close, but he edged me out from a 40 roll. (half car) Then, from 20 I pulled and it stayed that way, due to his traction problems. If I had a 100 shot of nitrous I would have beat him pretty good. With a full bolt on LT1 and a 100 shot, I say I could run a 12.1 or so. Which means, bye bye lightning. Especially from a roll.

A properly tuned lightning with a chip, pulley, and full exhaust should be putting down 410+ rwhp (depending on the pulley size). Those trucks are beasts, I love them and wanted one so bad but they are only rear wheel drive!

Also yea with a 100 shot youd smoke a lightning, but if the lightning had a really small pulley, built engine, 1000000000000000000 shot of nitrous, turbo, and race gas it would be bye bye camaro. Not really fair to say "well if I had this and that" as it would be the same if the lightning had additional mods. JMO.

Really? Is it supercharged like the lightning? That would be badass, id def pick one up. I love the looks of the L's, they are sweet *** trucks, especially with the side pipes and step-side body. I hope they dont change the styling too too much. Any idea on the Hp ratings and engine type?

Yeah, I was referring to someone else. You might want to read that again, or just read it in general. We were talking about a modded LT1 Vs a modded lightning and he said I would need a 100 shot to take him. I told him I would beat the lightning pretty bad if I had a 100 shot, since the race was so close with the mods we both had. (A chip, pulley, tune and exhaust for the lightning) I just have a full bolt on LT1.
