Default vortec'd fox body kill

went out for a "cruize" last night, cold as **** and all but clear out.

i brought the girlfriend along so i didn't plan on any races, and with it being soo cold i didn't even expect many people out. to my surprise there was a few mustangs at a popular spot in n.e..

after chatting with the one (5.0 foxbody, pretty sure just bolt-ons) we found out we had mutual friends and he told me he was racing another mustang (5.0 with the vortec) in a few minutes. he said the one he was racing had a 306 and some unknown mods-

after the s/c'd mustang beat up on my friends bolt on mustang, well i felt some payback needed to be issued .

1st "race"- just playing around from a 60mph roll, i hit the gas a little bit and he floored it. i then floored it and noticed that i wasn't going to pull much on him since traffic was coming up fast, so i let off and let him take that one.

s/c mustang +1 me +0

2nd race luck would have it we catch a light, but traffic wasn't more than 1/8 mile away so we did a quick launch and i got him by a car or 2 at about 70mph- then we had to let off.

s/c mustang +1 me +1

3rd race, we come to a light with about 1/2 mile of open road ahead of us. we begin chatting and i ask him about his setup, and how the other guy though he had a 306. he tells me it is headers/exhaust/intake etc... stock motor'd (boltons only) mustang with a vortec at 6psi, street tires, stock AOD.

the light changes while we are still talking and we both roll to about 15mph where he gets the hit and i nail it right afterwards. by 60mph i only had about 1.5 cars on him but by 90mph i had a good 2.5-3 cars on him, where i shut down.

me +2 s/c mustang +1

mind you this not launching my car, or heating up my tires or anything like that. imho this fox body ran good for what it had, he said he bested a 13.1 on street tires but couldn't remember his trap speed . they later didn't believe my car ran low 12's, luckily i had a handful of 12.1X at 111.XX timeslips to shut the nonbelievers up. in foresight i wish i would've heated the tires and launched the car because... well... use your imagination on the outcome.

he is gettins slicks soon so i think a re-match will be in order, this time im not giving him any handicaps though. im getting rid of all passengers and the converter is getting flashed

A 111.5 trap speed seems kinda low for a corresponding 12.12 et. I'm thinking it should be closer to 116-118+. Were you riding the brakes through the traps??

BTW, nice kill on the Vortech'd Fox!

my trap is pretty much on par for what a car with a good hook will do- and it is auto. a m6 may run similar while trapping considerably higher.

the girlfriend says nothing during races, she just sits motionless with the "oh ****" look on her face. come to think of it i don't think she breathes either till after it is over haha. she did shortly afterwards ask to go hang with her friends, since we spend a good amount of the night doing my thing it was her turn to do her thing. . a good tradeoff imho, she doesn't bitch about me racing and i don't bitch about hanging with her stupid friends

Your trap is dead on Sleeper, Its just that you know how to drive/launch and most ppl dont (myself included in that one in all honesty) My friend cuts 12.20's @109 in his fox.

Well, blower spec plugs are worth at least 75 rwhp, but the X-pipe probably cost him around 50 rwhp of that back

I don't know about your trap or times but I think its about right! I trapped 113mph and ran 12.6-12.7's...........But about the mustang, I raced a late 80's 5.0 347 stroker with DR's and he ran 12.5's at 113mph and he didn't have forced induction! I'm just presenting my experience with a built 5.0 and the best time I've ran so far so you can compare it.............I also ran that 12.6 with 2.1 60ft time even though I had DR's ! But I hear that .1 better reaction times turn .2 improvements on the overall ET.

well you have the right idea (it is .1 in the SIXTY FOOT is .2 in the 1/4, reaction time doesnt' matter unless you are bracket racing) fyi 347 mustangs have been know to run ALOT better than that n/a- that is a nasty motor setup for a fox body.

i think your vette has 11's in it with a low 1.6 60ft, but it may/may not have the gearing/ stall speed/ hook to get the good 60ft.

stanger88- he has x pipeS listed so maybe he is loosing more like 100hp, or even 150hp if he is running 3 . maybe he should install some H pipeS

I have added alot more mods since those runs.............I was bogging hard off the line with my DR's (even with high RPM launches) so I swapped out my Dual friction centerforce for a mcleod twin disc. I also added a carbon fiber driveshaft (because the aluminum ones int he vettes are known to do a jump rope affect ) and I added a stage III rear differential with 3:90 gears.........oh and I added long tube headers with 3" Xpipe and no cats! So with the new mods, I hope to hit 11's!
