Just race a neon and it was pretty quick!! Still killed it though....
I was turning left from a four lane street to another four lane street and the Neon was in front of me. I noticed the back right side of the car said R/T. I figured it was non turbo'd and was slow. Not worth wasting my gas on! I didn't plan on racing him till he slid over to the left land (We were in the right lane with me following him) and he had to rev and gun it. We pull up to the next light and there was a car ahead of me so I got behind him in his lane.
When the light turned green he rolled out and I had enough room to slip in front of the car in the right lane. As I started to switch lanes he hammers the throttle and gets a big jump. I'm still in first and by the time I floor it, he has about 1 1/2 to 2 cars on me. As I shifted into 2nd I start to pull pretty good. By the top of 2nd I'm pulling ahead of him and as I shifted to 3rd I was at least a car ahead. I only got to run about half way through third because we were coming up on a stop light fast. So I shut down about half way through 3rd gear. When I shut it down I had about 2 cars on him. I was impressed that he pulled as hard as he did. He had to have some kind of power adder.
But the best part was the look on there faces. The look was priceless as they strolled by me while slowing down for the stop light. Both the driver and passanger had blank stares and were looking at me as they rolled by. I had to make an immediate left after the light, so I didn't get to give him a hard pull through all my gears. I wish I could have though. I'm betting I would have had at least another 5 cars on him had I been able to top out 4th.
While we were racing I noticed he hit the rev limiter and backfired what I thought was flames.........that leads me to believe he's has either a turbo or spray. What would cause that?

I'm positive that the R/T has dual pipes coming out the back, but I don't think the badging was in the right place. I looked them up on the net and the pictures I found had the "neon" badge on the right side of the trunk and the "R/T" badge on the side of the door.
This car had "R/T" on the right side of the trunk where "SRT" typically is. However the R/T's do have dual pipes!

coulda been an R/T w/ the srt4 motor swap. it is popular to do for these kids out there because the r/t is very very cheap to buy used and is alot lighter than the srt4.
or, some tool bag just re-badged it so he could win against ricers.

it was most likely I mildly worked on srt-4 or neon with srt-4 setup.
I have raced some really fast ones. So has my cousin. We've never been beaten by one but, they are fast. I've raced and beaten on motor a 365 whp/411whp/488whp srt-s. Again, never sprayed them but, very goood side by side raceing until we where at the upper 140's.
