Default Teach me the way of The Rice

Ok i know nothing about any import cars really. But most of my friends drive these lil cars and I need to start learning wtf they are talking about. My one buddy has a 97 Noen yeah its just slow but was wondering what this would run, wouldn't it be like a 18 sec run, The other has a STR 4 03 i think What do they run stock... and then the other has a Nission Spec something and a 03 maybe STI with alot done to it well he says.

Were are some good links to find out crap about these cars or if anyone knows what some of these cars run in the 1/4 how much horsepower and 0-60mph and stuff like that, o and one has a Evo. He thinks he can take me anytime anywhere same with the sti boy. I know the str 4 has diff stages you can upgrade it to and so on but really what can they run and how much money does all that cost to dump all that into them. I know the sti guy has spent a **** load of money.. I guess i'm just trying to learn about some of these Ricers maybe learn which ones are worth a damn and which ones to watch out for... Its a shame, use to be harrased my mustangs all day and now all i find is rice. I guess i'm just wondering if I should bust out my 1989 chevy silverodo with its 255000 miles and its hole 150 hp to race some of these guys lol good old 350 she'll never die

teh SRT4 on juice would SUPRISE you, stock its about 14.0 on juice...or with upgraded turbo...mid 12's-13.0 depending on how radical he goes.

The EVO/STI are LOW 13's out of the box, mostly due to their AWD. With a few cheap upgrades they would kill you off the bottle. From a roll you would stand a good chance though, depending on the upgrades.

SRT4=240bhp (underrated) 0-60 mid 5's and 1/4 about 14.0
EVO/STI=300BHP or so and 0-60 4.5ish and 13.2 1/4

(this is all according to and averaging magazine times, results may vary)
the stock neon would run high 17's imho, who knows?

Check Out Evolutionm.com for Evo Info
nasioc For WRX and STI
DSMtunners for 1g and 2g DSM's
and Warstories for Srt4 Stuff

But basically know that the SRT4 and the Evo are going to be your biggest challenge specially if they are modded as it only take an evo 1500 worth of mods to run high 11's

Here is the "Rice" you really need to know about and watch out for. They'll take you to the cleaners if you don't watch out.

www.supraforums.com
www.rx7club.com
www.torquecental.com
www.240forums.com
www.DSMtuners.com

There are more, but there are a few. Oh, and 350Z's are slow.

350Zs are very nice all arounders, but they are not powerhouses in a strait line.

They can be quite respectable with forced induction, other than that you have nothing to worry about in a strait line. And even with FI, your running high 11s. Your probably on top here.

Most 350Z's you'll have no problem with, however, I think there are some TT 350Z's out there that can be a handful. With what you're track times are though, (Bottle after cutout 11.937@113.78 60ft 1.647) not much will touch you.

the 350Z is not a contender really, I put over 2 cars on one from only 70 to 90 and from what I have raced, I feel about = to an M6 LS1 F-bod from a roll. the Z is also CONSIDERABLY more expensive to mod than the other cars, thus, you are less likely to encounter one that will do much. I have heard they are evil at 120mph plus though, but im not sure if thats rumor or not. ask DemitryHKS.

HAHA, thanks for the intro bro! I saw you write this in the other column so on my way back from work I tried it out tonight lol. I was in sixth gear at about 120 when I could have been easily in 5th for a little bit more. I really think I'm going to be racing people from 120 and on J/K. It climbed to 145 pretty easy but nothing ridiculous. It's kinda funny cause like 70 to 100 takes a little while but after that it really climbs. Just sucks it's not the other way around huh

And back when i was stock i raced a RX7 and they are pretty quick none around that are modded though probley a good thing, Hopley i'll be in low 11's by the end of year b/c there is this one damn mustang that keeps handing me my ***

Wow I didn't want to believe it but I did a lil research and found out that a stock 98 Z28 will get to 100 about 1.2 seconds faster than a 03 350Z, then an almost 3 second difference between the two getting to 120, then an about 2.3 second difference between them getting to 140.

Obviously this will not be the exact case but the damn things speed up past 120!

That's pretty cool.

(I will post this in another thread about 350Z's on the same topic so if you see it again don't feel lost)

The 350Z does have a nice roofline that might be really low drag compared to most cars, that gentle taper is great for reducing drag. But the front end just does not look very slippery to me.

Anyone know the COD on a 350Z?

Well in 1998 Z28's had the LS1 motor as well....right? So I can believe that to a point. How did you find that out anyways? My buddy has a 1999 TA and he can pull me at those speeds your talking about but from like say 60 to about 120 he has a car or so on me. The way I see it is like at the strip a 14 sec car compared to a 12.5 second car is a HUGE gap in difference. For them to have a 3 sec difference like you said at one point I would think I would be like 4 school buses behind which really isn't the case? I may have misunderstood your statment too, and sorry if I did.

This doesn't seem so far fetched. That's about what a well driven one with slicks will run. We are talking about an 1/8th mile, right?

I too admit to be ignorant about the rice. I'll tell you what I do know though: There are a lot of shitty looking Eclipses/Talons (DSMs) that will really put you in your place.
