Default should have stopped picking on stangs :(

well i fianlly got beat in my stock a4 01 TA . a guy in a stang GT 03-04 model was pacing me and had his girl int he car. it didnt sound real loud or anyhting so i figured he was stock. well he wouldnt get beside me and kept jumping it form behind me so i would punch it also well finally at the moment i let off the gas cruising back to 45mph he punched it all the way. and about a sec later i reacted and punched it i was at about 48ish when i hit it . he got real good momentum on me and started to walk me. by 60ish he was passed me and by 85 he had probly a car inbetween us. but i was slowling his pull fairly good. if we had went till you know the engines couldnt go any faster i probly would have passed ihm back. but for having extra weight he still got me. i would have liked to have run him side by side. was fun though. and i know he wasnt stock. just wish i knew his mod list. i have notice their is a certain dead spot on this car where it doesnt like to downshift and you just gotta wait for the rpms to go up before you start hauling ***. anyhow just posting my loss.

what would it take to get a stang 03-04 GT into the mid 13's?

a stock GT is capable of around 14.0-14.2 with noone special driving. Some DR's, 3.73's, X-pipe, cat-back would have one easily mid 13's.

i got beat by an older square body stile the other night. im stock and he had a built carburated engine (cid unknown) and slicks. from a 30 roll to about 105 twice he had me by 2 or 2 1/2 lengths and gaining very slowly. he had gears on me to cuz he was shifting faster to like about a 4.10 gear it seamed like. he had a t5. intake and exhast and he will be seein my taillights. its all part of the game

Yep, that's the A4s deadspot. Get a stall and gears and it won't bother you anymore.

say he was barely gaining on me and that i was actually stopping his gain. do you think a cutout right behind the cat. would be enough to quicken my topend alittle more> make it breathe alittle easier. im getting a LID and a cutout after the 1st. im hoping that will net me mabe 15 rwhp.

i just wish i had a scanner/tune program module or somehting. having bought this car used. and never owning an ls1 before its hard to tell if im running at peak performance.

How would a higher stall torque converter help from a roll?? Once the car is moving its limited by its gear ratios

A 3,500rpm converter is perfect IMO.

Punching it at 48 in an auto is not a great idea. Find him again and punch it from 30 or a bit lower and it coould be different given you get traction. Or from mid-high 50mph.

When your car WILL shift and rev like hell.

well if i punch it at any rache where it drops to first gear i roast my tires. and i have broek traction form a 40 mph roll. yea yea it was a dead spot from 48ish. just was like no power for a moment. yea 50-55 seems to be a awesome spot to roll from in this car.

No way you broke traction from a 40 mph roll with 3.23's if your car is stock...
30 mph is your maximum before the dead spot....hit it at 30, you'll downshift to first and most likely roast them...
hit it from 31,32,33-whatever to about 45 is just a huge dead spot at the bottom of second gear..it wont downshift to first at any of those speeds....

And, a high stall converter would help you from a roll, not hurt you. If I floored it at 35 mph before my converter swap, I'd be at the bottom of 2nd gear, now if I floor it at 35, I'm up around 4 grand and pulling hard...

My old 2002 GT ran a 13.42 @ 102 with just magna flow mufflers, cats cut out and 275 Nitto drags at sea level. I always beat LS1s in it (just barely though) then I put a procharger on it and became a real sloppy shifter because it didn't matter as much.

Yeah I beat similar mustangs pretty bad, it was deffinately faster than your average mustang...not to mention my driving wasn't too bad either, I forgot to mention I had a steeda tri ax to help me power shift it. There is a guy I meet with an 02 GT that would hang with my buddy's nitrous GT convt. with full bolt ons my buddy ran a 13.04 with a 2.0 60'. When he street raced this NA GT with a few basic bolt ons hung right with him, they were dead even all the way through the quarter. It was pretty amazing my buddy was running a 125 NOS direct port kit and he dynod at 345hp and 380 tq. @rw (I am guessing on those numbers but they should be pretty close to that.) I would love to see that NA GT dyno, it should have pretty amazing numbers if it was keeping up with a 345hp convert on the street.
Factory freaks are neat cars, they are fun but cause a lot of controversy on these boards.
