Default First loss with my new mods.

My brother and I were cruising around looking for a race and not having any luck. We decided to make one more pass when we found a white 03/04 Cobra sitting in Wendy's parking lot. After asking the people there who's it was, nobody seemed to know. We were going to give up and were about to leave when another car pulled up and the driver of the Cobra got out. He came over and asked if I wanted to make a friendly run just for fun. I said definitally and we agreed to start from a 60mph roll (neither of us wanted to go from a stop in this cold weather). I had my brother and he had his friend with him, so we were even on passengers.

We went out to the spot and I honked three times. We were only going about 45mph. On the second honk he took off and I tried to go right after, but I went sideways and then missed a gear, lol. He saw that he went way too early (later admitted that it was his mistake) and he slowed down. We got off the highway and turned around getting back on the other way. We got next to each other going 60mph and I honked three times. I had it in second gear, so I was definitally in the meat of my power band. On the third honk we both hit it and I hung for a second and then he started pulling away. He wasn't destroying me, but was pulling away decently. We took it up to about 130 mph (for me, slightly faster for him since he was pulling) and at the end of the race he had about 3.5-4 cars on me.

We pulled into a gas station and I told him that his car was fast as hell. He was in total shock that I kept up as well as I did. He kept saying that I my car was freakin fast and kept comlimenting it. It turns out that he has about every bolt-on you can get and a ported stock blower. He said he dynoed 527 rwhp with 15 lbs of boost and that he was making 17psi when he raced me I was definitally not out to lose a race, but after hearing how much power his car had, I was definitally happy with my performance. He said that he pulled 4 cars at the very most, maybe less. The guy was very cool, and I'd definitally like to hang out with him again. I think when it warms up, I'll see if he wants to run again from a dig. You never know, I could get lucky, although he did say that they have a solid rear ready to go in, so i'll probably still get waxed. Either way, it'd definitally be fun.

Overall, a great night of racing and hanging out with cool, people!

I dont get it, i know you are lighter, but you were WAY underpowered compared to him, what is up with LS1's hanging with MUCH more powerful other cars from a roll? not calling anyone out, im just curious about it, seems to be a common thing

I honestly wasn't suprised that I kept up that well...until he told me how much power he made. Then I couldn't believe how well I did. Maybe his driving was'nt the best? There's always an explanation, even if we don't know what it is. Either way, it was a badass race with a nasty car!

pretty sure its a weight issue,
the cobra is probably over 4000lbs with 2 drivers right?

Maybe it's me...but 4-cars from 60-130 is pretty convincing.
And it is a 420rwhp car that's probably a bit lighter...not like he's in a stock, 250rwhp LT1 car.

I wonder how efficient that blower is. The LS1s strength is in the fact that it doesnt just pull hard, but that it also does it for a long time in each gear. He might be getting that 520 at peak, but the stock blower is likely not so efficient at those boost levels. So he has peakier power than the LS1.

Basicly, power under the curve. Yeah he has more than you but not as much as you might think. I bet thats true of a lot of cars that 'should' beat LS1s.

If he got a 2.2L KB, then hes going to be a lot faster at any point, more efficent. That thing would be plain scary then. Its scary now.

Damn nice run. I'd be proud big time.

You couldn't possibly be more wrong.

Sure...at 17psi, a ported Eaton is going to start to wheeze, but it's still going to make good power.

Thats impressive that they put a blower capable of that kind of boost on stock. Whats the stock pressure?

I know they have 13psi @ 4000, and 10.5psi @6000.

I guess the peak should be close to 4,000 on the rpm range.

Like 9-10psi.
Some cars make more, some a bit less.
But you're right, 17psi is pushing a ported, stock Eaton pretty hard. You can spin them higher, but at that point, I'd be considering a Whipple/KB swap.

I agree 100%. The hp/torque curve or a ported eaton Cobra is
awesome...much more area under the curve than a N/A LS1.
Tough comparison obviously, but I'm just replying to the above post.

Nice race! It's all in good fun.

The newest Ported Stegs are awesome. With the Accufab, blower spacer and proper tune...2.8/4lb lower..thanks Kenne Bell, my car with 17-17.9 lbs pulls flat to 6300 like a bitch. Still gettin a KB though. A KB car will bitch slap my car.

At 17psi, a KB/Whipple will make ~80-100 rwhp and ~30-40 rwtq more than a ported Eaton car.
