Default DSMS and FBODS....

Too bad the eclipse thread got closed it was pretty interesting.
I happen to own both.
I was die hard muscle car guy for almost 30 years or so..yeah I am 48!
First car was a 77 bandit 400 Trans am. Love trans ams.
Love f bodies.
A year or two ago bought a 92 awd turbo at auction. It was ok stock, they do a low 15 high 14 or so. Started to mod it and got hooked. They are pretty easy to get to stock lt1 level. Maybe a 1000 in mods to do that or even less. They are a bit lighter as well the awd versions ,the fwd dsm are way lighter. Like 2700 pounds. Awd will also crush just about any car that isn't all wheel drive unless they are on drag tires and even then likely the awd will still out 60ft you unless you have a very serious car and the awd can do that on street tires.

I hopped that 92 way up there with approximately a 500 engine hp turbo and support mods. It was very fast but never had chance to install high perf clutch or big front mount intercooler, the last two things it needed to really scoot.
But I can assure you the car was not slow and with bigger turbo and support for mabye a coule of thousand bucks it can easily run right with stock and mildly modded ls1s and eat most lt1s up badly unless they have the bigger mods also.
I sold the 92 and am now building a super dsm. A 650hp turbo is going on with direct port nitrous and all support mods. It should be an easy 10 second car even off spray. This is not dreaming but reality.

I love dsms.I love the awd ones the best.

Now since can't have my dsm being faster than my favorite ride my 99 ta ws6 that bought brand new I had to get her some nice mods. So ordered twin turbo kit for her and now the ls1 should be able to stay as my fastest car.

I just want to say that I dont' consider the turbo dsms to be rice. They have real performance to back them up and even stock are not that bad although stock they are no lt1 or ls1 beater but talking bone stock. A 20 dollar boost controller can add a quick 50 to 75hp into a dsm in a second. Its that easy. And instantly they are as fast as an lt1 and getting closer to stock ls1s.

Go test drive a nice dsm. You might find them addicting.
But the rule applies ,as impressive as my 4 banger 2.4 litre dsm is ,a big v8 with big twin turbos is a whole nother level of impressive.

Gar, they are still on the digicam but not uploaded. Ill get em after work....

Anyway, you use a 4g64, G64B (with the smaller bell housing bolt pattern) or what I have, a G4CS block, and combine with the 100MM stroke stock mitsu crank to get 2.4L. 87MM bore, 100MM stroke. You can actually swap a Hyundai sonata bottom end in to do this, it bolts right up the stock 4G63 head.

Alternatively, and very common now is to use the stock 6 bolt (6 or 7 bolt refers to the number of flywheel bolts) block with the 100MM crank and pistons with relocated wrist pins to avoid interference and you get a 2.3L or so.

Hello spool and borad torque band I hope

Theres some other wierd ones out too. i think Jun makes a 2.2L kit for 4G63s, though I have never seen it or even heard any reliable info on it.

The hardcore high RPM drag guys tend to go with the standard 88MM crank for its strength whjile putting it in the G4CS block to get the extra bore, allowing a lot of high RPM flow and a 2.1L. Those guys are nuts, shifting at like 10K sometimes. not so much a street motor.

Not that this is on topic, but pics if the thread is not locked. PM if it does get locked and you want 'em.

And I dunno about 50Hp from just a BC, but you can get a lot from a little initially for sure.

Happy boosting, especially on high cube psycho motors

I love dsms too. I have a 91 Laser turbo FWD, I paid $1000 for it and it is actually pretty quick. However, is atrocious from a stop, one wheel wonder. I also had a 92 Talon TSi AWD. But, I sold it to get the vette.

I'm a big DSM fan, i have a import/bike shop here in MA. Here is a pic of a customers car i did over the winter. He is a little short on money now but we should see 650 plus awhp out of this set up. If anybody need hook-ups on the dsm stuff let me know. Steve

Sparetired is correct. We are both doing the same thing.I have a motor from 90 hyundai sonata. Its a mits engine. You use the crank and block and thats pretty much it. I have a fully forged 2.4 with all pretty much good old USA
parts in it.Crower connecting rods, wiseco pistons, crower valve springs, manley valves, crower stage 3 cams. My turbo is also a garrett called a FP3065.You can't just bolt one of these 650 hp puppies on .I have 950 cc injectors thas like 96 pounds or so in our v8 terms, a good fuel pump ,fuel reg. I have laptop tuning for it .A huge huge intercooler.
And of course stronger clutch and soon likely need stronger tranny.

I just found out my 91 fwd turbo has a sick turbo in it today.it woulnd't go past 10psi and still a lot of guys thought it was pretty quick. Good news is its pretty cheap to fix. Most parts for the dsm cars especially the older ones are cheap and there is a healthy aftermarket.

You can see the 2.4 on that motor.
The advantage is to spool up the big turbo much quicker..say at 3800 rather than 4800 and the car will be much better off boost as well. And you can make way more torque and shift at lower rpms..easier on the trans in the dsm as they don't like to shift that high sometimes.

Also what do you guys think of the way that intercooler looks on that TA. That is not my TA its off gmr site..my TA is red.
So what is the opinion on the way the intercooler looks ?
