I was told from a roll to race under 30mph or over 50mph with an auto.

Get a stall, that'll get rid of those dead spots the wide ratios create.

Depends on your rear end gear where those dead spots are, do a practice WOT run in a safe area and see where the transmission shifts at. That'll tell you where you need to be.

And remember, "D" or "3" for T/A's is the setting you need to be at if you're going to race. It draws from a different table, stays in gear longer, shifts quicker than OD.

Oh yes. The stall speed determines the rpm that the converter starts to compress at, so from a roll, at WOT, you'll see the tach jump up to 6k and stay right there. No dead spots.

There's an awesome video that used to be on streetfire that showed this, but i can't find it.

Foot to floor from a roll.

Foot to floor(feathering) from stop.

Plain and simple.

Dead spots are 35-50mph.

yea trust me you dont wanna roll after 32ish or you will be at the bottom of 2nd gear and it will take you couple second to get the steam going. 55ish is a great spot to hammer it down from a roll.

0-30 unless you got good tires your gonna spin if you put the gas all the way down. i know i do. i have 3.23 gears.

the reason i have been asking is because last night i raced a mach 1 which i thought i would have had. its manual and its only mod is a short throw shifter. we went from a 50 mph roll and a 40 mph roll. after the third honk he jumped atleast a car on me and we just stayed there while i caught up very little. you think maybe from a stop id have a better chance?

Yes. Most likely you started from your dead spot. It'll be a lot closer if you start from a complete stop, although that 1-2 shift drop is pretty substantial.
