Default LS1 verses surpercharged LT1

Ok this took place at the track in the UK.

Unlike you guys this is the first time I have raced another 4th gen f/body in the 3 years I've owned them and I go racing 3 or 4 times a year. Cause there's only about 400 or so 4th gen cars over here they don't all drag race.

The car I raced featured in an American Car World magazine so I have all the spec on it. A Vortech V2 surpercharger, Edelbrock T/body, SLP headers, transpac, 3.23's 50 shot nitrous kit( not working)

I get to the front of the staging lane and Ducan who drives the 94 Black Trans Am is in front of me waiting to go, so I motion to the girl sending the cars to the line that we would like to race each other after I tapped on Duncans window to see if he was up for it.

So we go to the line both do good burnouts and we stage. I hit it on the Amber and holeshot Ducan off the line and the whole race I can't see where he is I know he's not in front so he must be just in the blind spot over my left shoulder.

I thinking any second now he's gonna come by me but know I get to the line first. I get the timing ticket and it was a close race my 13.37@100.83mph to his 13.45@103.29 but reaction time did it my .275 to his .421 and winner by .223 seconds. About a cars length I suppose.

Now in the magazine artical thay are claiming 420hp for the V2 setup plus he has a 50 shot of Nitrous claiming a total of 480hp which I think must a bit optomistic as I am stock with a TCI3000 and 2.73's. He has run a 12.9 with the nitrous working, but we both had trouble with our Nitrous set ups so this was on motor.

Not a bad kill I would say!

Im surprised a 12.9 is all he is runnin with a V2 Vortech.

What PSI is the V2?
I know ive seen LT1's with that cheap Powerdyne 4.5 PSI and full bolt on w/gears/stall run low to mid 12's.

nice kill!

That was with his 50 shot of nitrous as well. Vortech claim 420hp for their V2 on an LT1 according to the magazine article. If he had 420hp he would be deep in the 12's

Sea level, Elevation is not a factor in the UK we only have a half a dozen drag strips and 13.3 was on the motor only.

I don't know what PSI he was running!

I think it's his set up there's no way he's any where near 420hp because as you said 11's

When he raced me he hooked good it's A4 his 60ft was 1.9 same as mine!
I saw him run 2 14's aswell but I don't know why his car is so inconsistant!

He has a a 50 shot dry kit so if that did not fire properly there's no extra fuel going in to cause a bog is there?

what track was it at?

I know the prep at Santa Pod SUCKS big time on RWYB events, very few people run good times due to the 60' when it's slippy out. Last time I went I was easily spinng the wheels even 200 feet down the track

Nice kill

It was at Shakespeare County Raceway Track prep was good they glued the track cause the 8 second Outlaw Anglias were running.

My car hooked great no wheel spin and I flashed the converter for my best 60ft which was 1.94. when I built revs to 2,000rpm and then went gave me a 2.04 60ft.

I am running Michillen Pilots sports and they are supposed to be F1 technology! But I will say this they grip pretty good at the track.

I'm getting more wheel spin on the road since the TC went in.

I have always found Santa Pod to be slower than Shakey by .2 or so but I was getting 60ft times of 2.08 the same as Shakey in the 95 Z28 there last year but the E/T was down.

I made one of the UK drag photo sites here I am doing a burnout not much smoke though!

What has your car run at the pod? Have you done any of your mods yet?

Good pic:

I've only taken the z/28 to the strip once (I work Sundays which is usually the RWYB). But I've been before in other cars.

It was back in January and it was icey out. Plus the track prep was probably the worst I've ever seen. Even the 4wd Sti's where spining all their wheels out of the whole and even lighting up the rears a bit on the 1st-2nd shift would never have beleived it if I didn't see with my own eyes.

There was a really nice Terminator there with a load of mods and had run 11'9s in the past (not at Santa Pod) but even with DR's the best they managed was a 13.19 ET

My car was totally stock then and the best 60' I could get was a 2.4 I was trapping in the region of 101-102mph but I couldn't go to WOT until 60mph+ which was stupid.

Hope to make it over to Shakespeare and maybe York later in the year.

I swapped my faulty Nytrex solonoid with a Nos powershot one I was using for the purge and it work good now seems more powerful than the Nytrex one.

I am going back to Shakey 11th of June and I should have my LT's in then.

I am back at Shakey 1st & 2nd July for the Nostalgia Nationals and then Santa Pod for the Mopar Nationals end of July.

Default Update with a video of the T/A

I didn't know I had this on my video camera as I gave it to my buddy and said film what you like. He has just bought a Ligthning pickup and here is one racing Duncan's Surpercharged T/A.

The T/A wins on a holeshot 13.48 to 13.41 (if you pause the film near the end you can see the times)

Here's my timing ticket against the surpercharged T/A ( I don't have film my buddy went walk about and gave me back my camera)

Here is a link to the UK street racers report on the fastest times that weekend and the T/A is SR133

http://uk-srs.co.uk/displayresults.php?U=srs2&year=2006

here's the vid:

Default update

I did the headers install today at my buddies workshop using a proper 2 post ramp and an air racket. It went very well and I can't believe how much easier the job was with the proper facilities. The install guide I down loaded said 5-12 hours using car ramps and axle stands at home.

We di it in 3 1/2 hours and test drive aftre wards perfect, no exhaust leaks or Y pipe touching under the car also no ground cleareence issues.

Funny thing my car sounds exactly the same as it did before. I have a quietnes pack on the exahust with a single outlet. I could feel the car feels more responsive in the mid range. I have a twin outlet exhaust to fit yet.

I now need to get back to the track to see how this beast performs!

keep picking away at it- hptuners would be a very good investment for you also with the headers/stall- plus a cutout would free up some horsepower and you can open it only at the track. a set of tires and tuning you could get deep into the 12's on motor easily!

i think it is cool to see they do this **** across the pond . the terminology may be a little different but it is basically the same.

I have an electric cutout I kept from from my 95 Z28 LT1, I don't have the little Y pipe bit. I need to get one and try and fit it when I put my twin rear exhaust box (muffler!) on. It sounded great on the LT1 and I frightend the **** out of many a boy racer in their 4 bangers at the traffic lights.

Yes tunning is on my list of stuff to do, it's kinda expensive on the LS1 compared to the LT1 though!

One thing we should have done when we fitted the LT's was fire it up on open headers just to see what it sounds like!

Yes everything is goes by a different name over here, I try to use terms you guys use but so you'll know what I'm on about, but it's not hard to suss out I'm not from the USA.

I'll give you a few examples:

Hood = Bonnet
trunk = Boot
idle = tickover
pavement = road or tarmac
sidewalk = pavement
hookup = getting traction (we would hookup a trailer )
winker = indicator
radio = stereo
rotors = discs

There's just a few, it's funny when I talk to my buddies here I say stuff like getting the car to hook up out of the hole. They must think I'm nut's. You wouldn't here terms like that unless you are on a USA MB.
