My 01 formula vs LT1 (?) Z28 Stock/modded
Well i was cruisin down the street when i see a white Z28 come by so i give a bump in the gas to make the front jump a lil bit... at the light he gets stuck behind a car so as the light turns green i go so he can go around the car. while cruising at about 30 mph i hear his exhaust so i hit it instantly putting him about a car and a half back and im still going so i keep it in 2nd and let up on the gas letting my gear slow me down while he is still WOT as he gets his nose up to mine i jump on the gas again leaving him behind once more. Just curious but shouldnt the LT1 be a lil bit better? i figured it would be a close race. He had a exhaust and intake (dont know if it was a lid or just a filter or what) So should a LS1 dominate that much?? i would say that when i let up the first time i was 3 cars ahead.

u jumped first and had plenty of momentum over him, so that helped u significantly right there. i remember once i had a guy jump on me with a bone-stock caprice with an LT1 (260 HP) and i just couldnt catch him because he had so mch more momentum over me. i gained on him but not nearly fast enough where it wouldve made a difference. even tho i had close to 50 more HP over him, just the fact that he was already rolling that much faster than me made all the difference in the world.
so, to answer your question, he wouldve been hanging with u much closer if you did the traditional 3 beep sprint.

you had a jump on him, that's why.
I beat my friend's 67 Camaro - 450 RWHP with the tires spinning on the dyno - on the highway the other night.. because I got a 5 second jump on him with my car in 2nd gear at 55 mph... (he raped me 3 times after that though...)
either that or he just let up. you wouldn't have three cars on him through 1 gear if you were both WOT and had similar mods. My experience racing similarly modded M6 LS1s is that we're close till around 70 mph then the LS1 slowly gets a car to a car and a half on me. Never had a problem with A4s as they trap a bit lower.
Although anything can happen really.. I raced my friends built LT1 the other night (350 rwhp on a crap tune and dying opti, still trapped 112) and he only had a car and a half on me at 115-120 when I shut down. Anything can happen..

hold on i think i may have said it wrong cuz i didnt have the jump we both took off the same time... i may have jumped a lil bit the first time but the second time as far as momentum goes it was all his. cuz he stayed WOT the whole time he was behind me and i let up to have him catch up and when he begun passing me (him still being WOT) i jump on the gas again to get the 1-2 car length. also i have no mods he had the ones i stated.

Sounds like a fare race to me (you waited then punched), a kill is a kill NO EXCUSES.
Ive ran a few LS1s , 2 i beat with intake and catback, two others flat out murdered me.

So you have a car with similair weight, similair gears, 20 more rwhp and a motor that makes alot more power in the upper rpm range. I know for a fact that auto LS1's with 3.23 gears are lethal from a 25-30 mph roll and a 50-70 mph roll. Inbetween that causes us to hit a dead spot in the transmission. I know the first race started at 30 mph and the result makes sense because the LS1 was in a good starting speed and got the jump. "If" the second race started in the 50-70 then that race results makes sense too since the LS1 was in another good starting speed and it makes more power at 4000+ rpm's.
If however the LT1 had LT headers (first post just says intake and exhaust but no specifics) then the rwhp should be close and I would have to fault the results on the driver or a tired motor.
