Default Outright Mustang kill and other random wagon crap....

Had to put some time in the office today-Sunday (sucks). So, when I was done, I decided to go for a Sunday drive and hit some highways and some on/off ramps.
Today’s fun somehow had a left lane theme to it. Can’t say any of these were heads up runs (except for the Stang, which came back for more), but I had a fun time beating on the wagon this afternoon and drawing some interesting reactions from some drivers. Hehehe.

1- Roll - ’94 or ’95 Stang @ 70mph roll.
I was in the left lane and a Mustang with an NHRA sticker (saw this later) on its bumper sees me driving spiritedly through traffic. He tries to do a fly by on my right, while I was cruising at 70mph in the left lane. I time his fly bye perfectly and hold him off and put a couple cars on him and shut down. So does he. With a clear road ahead, he attempts fly by #2 (this one was a harder charge), so I timed it again with a rev match drop to 3rd @ 70 again and I put about 3-4 cars on him until shut down somewhere in 4th. This time he continues his fly bye and disappears off to the horizon at very high speeds. Bye Stang.

2- Twisties- Mini Cooper
I was hitting one of my favorite offramps which has a long ½ mile straight which ends in a right turn which then shoots you through some S’s. A Mini Cooper sees me driving spiritedly on the long straight and struggles to catch up to me. I see this and let off throttle, to allow him about 3 cars behind me. I see that he’s really getting on it leading up the end of the straight, hoping to gain on me through the S’s. I confidence brake before turning in, watching him about 2 cars back and I hold the line, modulating through the S’s to see him fall about 10 cars back as we both powered out of the S’s. I see him in my rear view mirror pointing at my car, talking with the passenger.

3- Roll- new BMW 650
I was in the left lane, cruising at 70mph, and I didn’t see a BMW 650 sneak up on me and pass to my right on the center lane. I dropped to 3rd, and tucked in behind him and followed his charge on the left lane. When he looked in his rear view mirror, he did a double take, as he saw me right there (when he probably thought he had passed me a ¼ mile back). It took every bit of effort from my car to achieve this hold, but the look on the guy’s face was priceless.

4- Roll- new Infiniti M45
Again, in the left lane, about 70mph and an M45 gets on my *** and flickers his high beams. I move over to the center lane and he gets on the gas really hard. I do the same and match his accel. and pull a couple cars in front of him and merged back into my lane. Again look on face- priceless.

The stealthwagon definately has a strange way of surprising unsuspecting drivers.
Cheers.

BTW, pardon my stories from Wagon purgatory. One of these days I'll find myself in something fast again.

Hehehe, thanks. Again, the only kill was the Stang GT. The others were simply silly acts. The 650 would have walked away if it were running 10/10ths.

I haven't dragged it. Feels like a high 13ish @ 100ish car to me.

Edit: Eh, my response came out on top over your question. This bug happens here every so often. Nice LT1 by the way.

Thanks.
It's whisper quiet. Doesn't make any noise- just the hiss of its TD04 pushing air through a decatted downpipe and out the stock catback. Like all WRX's up 'till this year, it came with 3 cats from the factory (one in the Up pipe, one in the Down pipe, one downstream). It's still got the downstream one left in there after the downpipe to keep things quiet.

This be it up close:

Ahh southie... sounds like you have been having a little fun in the grocery getter. Have you been racing it like you have in the past?

Do you mean streetrace in it like I used to race in the SS? Not even close. If you mean lapping on roadcourses, yeah, I'm still doing that.

At first, I simply used the stock wheel/tire combo (17x7 Enkei wheels with 215-45-17 Potenza RE011 tires). The stock tires had plenty of grip but not much stiffness in the sidewall.
Now, I'm using a slightly larger wheel/tire combo for track days (17x7.5 Black Racing Pro N1's with 225-45-17 Hankook RS2 Z212's). Plenty of grip, good sidewall and great heat cycle capability from a $91 tire. This pic shows this combo on the car:

Nah, I know you don't really street race anymore, meant the roadcourses. I wasn't sure what exactly you were doing, just knew you were taking it to roadcourses, and whatnot. Sounds awesome. Any plans in ever getting back into a drag car? Now that you know how to drive better I'm sure you'd do better, and wont need those heads to dip into 11's

^ Lol. Damn you guys. Hehehe..

I actually went with my son (15 month old who's first word is "CAR") this evening to check out close-out '06 Mustang GT Convertibles. They may not be the quickest cars, but they're a step in the right direction in terms of what I like in a car. The wagon stigma is really getting to me. My son really liked a new black '07 GT Hardtop C/S edition with shiny pony wheels. Do you all think the C/S GT's are 'lil too flashy? They have a front splitter, hoodscoop, some (fake I think) ducts in front of the rear fenders, a rear diffuser (who knows if it actually does anything) and simple C/S badging.

I've never seen one. Do they look anything like the Hertz cars??
