Default Stock for Stock vs 96 M3

Raced my good friends stock M3 a couple days ago:

fyi i drive the 1999 black z28 A4 and his is a 1996 manual 5 M3

<img src="<Image Hosting>

we went back behind the electronics store round here and lined up, honked, and launched.

off the launch we both spun but his 240 horses caught sooner then mine and he had about a foot on me, up until he went from 2nd to 3rd, when i slowly, then more quickly pulled him back and the end of about 1/4 mile i had him by a good car and a half.

second race was on the freeway from a 60 mph roll, and well, as you can imagine, damage was immense. enough said

all in all its a very quick car but 240 horsies can only get you so far.

No, no it wouldn't. Get that stupid **** out of your head. The camaro/trans am ARE NOT JUST GOOD FOR STRAIGHT LINE PERFORMANCE.

My car handles like a champ, esp since it has been lowered

having driven both, the M3 would lay waste to a camaro/Tran Am in almost all handling aspects i have to say(stock for stock). M3's handle absolutely incredibly stock and with suspension mods are even better they just lack straight line performance. Camaros handle OK from the factory and can be made to handle amazingly well, but in stock form the two do not compare. That said I know this is a camaro forum so i will put on the flame suite.

Good Kill by the way, the M3 is a quick little car

Yeah... in the handling department, E36 M3>F-body. You can MAKE an F-body handle pretty well, but an M3 is completely in a different class of car.

I have a freind who has one of those M3s, pretty fun car, the HP output is really like 270 tho, dyno sheets can confirm that. Good kill tho, i spanked a newer m3 a while ago, always fun cars to beat on

Yea I raced one about the same year from like a 50-100 roll before we hit the twisties; put a couple cars on him and then slowed quickly back down to about 50 as the road is often wet as well due to some sprinklers at night. Now taking these curves at 80mph in my Z28 is really pushing things, done it before and can hear the tires start to sqeak a bit as the curves are rated for 40mph. The M3 on the other hand, didn't even brake. Must've gone through them at 95+ without breaking a sweat.

You're a ******. I don't ever say the word ******, but nothing else seems to fit. Very first reply and its going to be some ricer bullshit like that...
They didn't race in a ******' slalom, so why bring it up?

OP, good kill, get some tires.

yes... My Mustang handles very well too with the Eibch springs/shocks/struts, Gripp caster/camber plates, and Eibach f/r swaybars, but still not like an M3.

Nice kill. The future M3s are going to be beasts, even at the strip. Our cars are showing their age.

hey guys,

nice kill to the OP.

I own a 95 M3 and i have a couple things done to it, but i would be hard pressed to even stick with an A4 ls1 let alone a manual.

Sounds like your friend is a good driver to be able to at least put up a fight from a dig.

I try to race TA's and camaros all the time just to see how bad i will get beat. from a dig my car surprises alot of them because my gearing is really aggressive( stock gearing is 3.15 in the 95's and i have bumped mine up to 3.91lsd).

normally a stock E36 M3 will run anywhere from a 13.9 to a 14.4 depending on who is driving the car. our cars don't respond nearly as well to mods as your cars do, so the best thing to do is save money and go FI.

by rights, the E36 M3 should be able to out handle an F1 with not much problem stock for stock. These cars have a 50/50 balance and are made for the corners. that's all good and nice, but dear heavens we don't stand a chance against a competent driver in a F1 in a straight line unless FI.

now i know your cars don't handle like crap and i don't buy that your interiors are as cheap as some make them out to be. i fricken love american muscle and am looking to learn on this forum as much as possible and then get a TA!

I love the mid 90's M3's. I still think they are one of the best looking cars on the road.

i am really excited to be on this forum cause i want to buy a ls1 TA in the next 6 months and from what i have been reading, there is SOOOO much to learn and all the info is right at my finger tips.

this forums is fricken nice!
