97 Mustang GT? Very CONFUSED!
I had picked up a friend and heading eastbound on the 78 freeway in North County, I came across a Beautiful Red 97 Mustang GT. We played cat and mouse on the freeway and he pulled me but not by much. I mean...he SLOWLY pulled away from me, it was almost agonizing.
What confuses me is that we pulled over afterwards and talked. He said he payed 36,000 dollars for a 2V motor which was some Cobra motor straight from ford? He said it was specially built for him? I never heard of this. He had a Vortech supercharger as well (price included) He claims 750 rwhp. It just didn't seem like it to me. I mean, the motor did have alot of work done but not 36,000 dollars worth. And the way he performed on the freeway there was no way he was putting down that much horsepower...he also said he was running 12 psi.
If anyone can help me figure this out...a 2V cobra motor that was specially built for him for 36,000 dollars...or at least try to make sense of it I would greatly appreciate it
I know my motors...but the guy seemed very respectable. So I am trying to give him the benefit of the doubt...

Then it must've been a 4.6 - a huge motor, and possibly a 4v since the heads are bigger. Still under the most expensive conditions, no Cobra mill would've set him back that much money. He didn't have his facts straight. Maybe he paid that much for the car? Still, no comparable car to yours should cost that much used. So most likely, he's a lier.

I agree ^. With that much power(that he was claiming), he would have walked you like crazy. I can get a Drag motor built for that much money and still have enough to do the rest of the car, and then some. Maybe he got suckered into buying a supercharged 97 stang for $36,000 but very unlikely would it cost that much. Good death.

unless he bought the car back in 97 new...Cobra could set you back 30k + back then easy, believe it or not. Vortech S, T, or Y + 305hp Cobra = pull on basically stock Z28 that's not shooting his juice
the rest of his story sounds like he was yankin your chain -- for no apparent reason

there is definantly a lie somewhere in there. If you are H/C and spraying 100 then he would have to have had more than 12psi on a GT to pull away from you. Not 750rwhp, but surely more than just 12lbs on a 2V motor.

Guy's an idiot.
When you looked in the bay, did you see a point on the heads where cam gears would be? Like a cover on each side thats maybe a bit wider and higher than the head itself? If so than its a 4V.
If the heads are relatively small, then its a 302 Cobra motor. Or maybe a 351 swap.
Did you see the super?

I actually looked at the motor and it was HUGE! It actually had the ford stamp on the block so it was definitely from Ford. There was a supercharger but it was a (VSQ Snail type) I mean, the motor was very nice and it had to be a two valve. There was nothing to indicate it being a 4V. I combed over that motor several times

Just chalk it up to the guy being a moron. Sounds like the same kind
of guy that has a Camaro with a "special Corvette engine" in it.
