Default UPDATE on his mods...what is the fastest gtp you have heard of?? i got called out

Yeah what the title says..i was called out at a bar tonight...yeah i know a bar everyone is drunk and they think they have the fastest thing ever...i know how it goes...well this kid called me out and say he has 5k under the hood of a gtp..and i was like you are serious and him and all of his friends were...i was okay so i humored them and listened to the 500+ hp corbas they beat and ls1 they took down like nothing...so i thought maybe he has a fast car but a gtp with 5k running down 500hp ls1 and cobras come on...this kid was serious as day and wanted to race for $1000...yeah like he has that right? but i was like it is raining out now and there is no way i am racing after i have been drinking...i told him i would race him anytime when it is nice out at the track...and he said hell yeah no problem let me know...

he had some buddies talking **** said unless u run 9.9's dont even talk to him...i just laughed and was like seriously you would need 35k with a gtp v6 but they were dead serious...am i just stupid or what i mean what is the fastest gtp that someone has heard of?

So as of now we got a date set when the weather is nice and the track is open...i guess i could run him in my dads Ms3 and 5.3 heads but i think i can get him in my SI...what do you guys think is a ******* crazy or are these guys straight ricers with a pontiac ...i know pontiac ricers

oh and i forgot to mention they have never been to the track but his buddy says front wheel drive is faster than rear wheel...yeah i know that is why top fuel run the power from the rear..anyways i thought it was amusing

sorry for the long post but this night was funny as hell...

With I/E/Pullies and traction they can run pretty good times. They are S/C 3.8s. I know there are a good few in the low 12s, prolly some 11 sec ones out there. I wouldn't call it a ricer at all.

With $5,000 worth of mods it can run some pretty respectable times by almost any standard. Unless you're talkin about the G6 GTP with 3.9 and 240 hp. $5,000 won't save that from an *** kicking.

You said you were racing at the track right? In that case, I doubt you have much to worry about, because it would take half or more of that 5k in suspension and tires with FWD. Not taking anything away from the GTP because I know they can be fast, but FWD seriously limits your capabilities on the strip, especially sub-12 second times.

My buddy's GTP went 11.9 with a turbo set-up, and our other friend went 11.9-12.0 so they can be fast no doubt, but there is no way he is driving a 9.9 GTP with only $5,000 in mods.

There were a couple at atco raceway for the pontiac nationals in 2006 that were in the 9s if I'm not mistaken. I'd have to get ahold of my friend to ask him.

I doubt a guy running in Pontiac nationals is at a bar talking **** with his friend about a sub-10 sec GTP.

they were just idiots probably. Did he even mention anything he had done?

9.9 is pretty fast for over 4000 lbs I'd say it would need QUITE a bit of work.

lol yeah definitely not some random guy in a bar. The ones I've seen have ALOT of work and the rear wheelie bars that prevent squatting.

From what I hear, $5000 in work doesn't get you a ton of stuff unless you do all the work yourself. I still think it could make for a decently fast GTP, but not in the 9's by any stretch. Also, they aren't as heavy as you guys think. I weighed my non GTP grans prix and it was only like 3550 with me in it. Add in the sharger and it might be around 3600. About on par with an fbody.

The fastest GTP I've seen ran mid 12s' on street tires. and when i talked to him he said e swapped the motor out for a G/P GT and turbocharged it. His setup looked pretty interesting, it wasn't even intercooled. but that thing ran strong and that turbo was loud!

there are plenty of fast GTPs. and IF this guy is serious about the 5k in motor alone, who knows what he could run. 12s, maybe low 12s with lots of nos. HPP did an article on a guy who swapped his supercharger for a turbo, and did NOTHING else....no tune, CAI, exhaust, nothing. that alone, with plenty of fabrication, got him mid 11s, as a previous poster said. it cost a few grand, but with that alone, he was faster then any stock Z06 or viper at the time. i'd ask to look under his hood before you do anything, just to see what he has.

^ Word....If this is a money race, IT would be wise to know at least a little about his setup to know where you stand. If no money is involved then who gives a damn, go have some fun!

ZZPerformance.com
Best ET & WHP Gen 3 M90 GP 10.87/410WHP
Best ET & WHP NA GP 12.60/248WHP
Best ET & WHP Monte 11.24/422WHP

Best NA GT 60'&ET 1.71/12.6
World record FWD 3800 ET/MPH/60' 9.01@150.5/1.34

Those are the best outta GP's as far as i know. And that's the owner of ZZPerformance so i'm sure he's got more then 5k in mods on the 9 sec one lol. But with a turbo and a few other small mods 11's isn't out of the question.

Having owned a 01 GTP with a few mods I'd say that unless he bought it modded and dropped another 5k into it he's full of it. Run him and find out I guess! Good luck!
