Default LT1 Kill by a Third Gen

The other day I was heading home from work when i ran into a blue 96 or 97 TA dropped on the ground and was really loud, so i figured i'd rev at him. He took off so i caught back up, then he took off again but i was ready this time. He got the jump on me from about 50mph but by the time i let off i was doing 80-90 and pulled a good car and a half on him. He wasn't happy and took the next exit. This isn't the first lt1 i've taken out either... It's always fun winning when you think your going to lose

So a stock 305 RS... with 3.73s... and you pulled on an LT1? Good kill...

When I had my 89 Formula350 with all of the bolt on mods I had on it I could pull on LT1's with the normal bolt ons as well.

The L98 at its height was a 245hp motor and the LT1 was a 285 in its last years.

^ He doesn't have the L98 tho, he's got a 305, which I, living in GA and seeing rednecks in 3rd gen 305's on a daily basis, have to say are dogs. If you killed an LT1, congrats, but I would have to think the fates were on your side big time for that to happen.

I know his car personally and have owned an rs myself. Mine was an oil blowing dog, and his, besides him being the best driver I have ever ridden with, can do things I didn't think possible for a 305.

I had a 350 TPI in my 87 Trans Am GTA and he ran right with me.

But yes, not by any means a common thing to see a 305 TBI do anything "fast"

a 305 tpi 5spd with bolt ons and 3:73s are good enough to show up a stock LT1 f-body

Thats true. But his is tBi, not tPi.

The irocs with the only stick option you could get, 220hp 305 TPI were very very decent cars.

Knew a guy with a 5speed Iroc 305, dont know if it was tbi or tpi, but it was pretty damn slow. He had exhaust(cant remember what) and it sounded mean, but had no ***** what so ever.

Mr brother had a 91 RS TBI 5.0 5 Speed, car looked great, but was slow as hell.
He now has a 20th Ann. Iroc-Z L98 Auto. Its quick, but even if it has some bolt ons an LT1 is going to win.

Im not doubting your kill, but this is very hard to believe.
305's both TBI and TPI are turds.
The slowest A4 2.73 LT1 would murder the fastest 305 3rd Gen.
3.73's arent going to make a 15 car length difference.

92' 305 TPI auto car with gears, no cat, catback exhaust and an air filter with typical free mods (cut the airbox, TB bypass, all the little stupid stuff) was running 14.17@99mph at Orlando Speedworld. Don't know what he's done to it since but it was right there with LT1 cars on a daily basis. Now the slowest LT1 car to the fastet 305 (There was a guy with a white 3rd gen running a 305 carb with nitrous running low 11's maybe 10's now not sure been awhile since I looked into it). I will agree 100% that the 305's are not a performance motor by any means, but certain models (the later TPI cars) were 14 second cars with minor mods. My buddy had the 305 HO carbed motor in his TA and ran 15.20's stock. I've seen crappy LT1 drivers slower than that. Your statement is a little off Good kill

Im not going to jump on you because I forget to type 'stock'.
And where (well atleast me) not talking about drivers, but what they can do.
305's are barely 15 second cars, even with Tuned Port Injection.
Maybe mid 14's with some mods.
L98's are a different story.

(not great times but average)

So you must have gotten the freaky 280hp L03 to beat an LT1. Damn, I wish my 91 RS had that option. I've got the lowly 170 hp version that gets outran by my 02 TrailBlazer.

LOL ya the sL0w3 . The stock 305 TPI cars at the end of the run of 3rd gens were high 14 second car with a decent driver. HO cars from the mid 80's were mid 15's all day, low 15's on a good day. The 91-92 cars with some bolt-ons are low 14 capable without touching anything on the motor. But not many are capable of this without extensive work. One guy is running 12's on an NA non-tpi 305 with cam, headers, etc. He wrote a big article about it but basically alot of weight loss, the right mods here and there and he was running low 13's high 12's with no power adder but he is one of the few

is it a 1 owner car?
are you sure the engine is stock?
i've seen a camed TBI 305 put down 220 at the wheels but it still wouldn't take down the cat-back only LT1 he was with

I'm never one to call BS cause I know what can happen on the streets. But as an owner of a 305TPI IROC-Z I can only wish to hang with an LT1. Hell the L89 was crushing my car back in the day.

I was thinking maybe cam? But still hard to take in. Maybe the LT1 has had a rough life and on its last leg? You just never know on the street. Good kill.

Thanks to all that beleve me. i know its hard to beleve but this isn't the first lt1 i've taken out... i'm not trying to say my car is something its not. just alot faster than most people think. o and not that it maters but i put a T56 in it. its not a t5. and my car can hang with low 14 cars all day. i have alot of fun suprising people with it... but most all rs's are dogs. i've raced a couple and they cant touch me.

to answer you guys i am the second owner of the car bought it with 109000 miles 3 years ago.it has 150000 miles or so and still loves to be hammered on. doesnt blow oil at all, not even at startup. i do blow alot, and i mean alot of fuel though. as far as the engine, i think its stock. cam sounds stock, but you never know. kinda funny i bought it from parr ford. they told me a old man traded it in on a pick up. i looked in the owners manual and there was adress for port orchard. the dealer told me it was a highway mileage car. but i noticed when i bought it there was a prom type thing screwed into the pad that covers the wires under the stearing collom. anyone have any idea what it could have been for? the wires were caped at the end and i havent been able to find wires that would have conected to it.
