Default Got beat by an ECLIPSE (yuck) tonight!

I dont know where in the hell this eclipse came from... but I am ashamed to say I lost to it! I was driving my DD it is a 00 TA M6 with longtubes, ory, catback, and a lid. Probably... about a 12.5-12.7 quarter car. Long story short I am on the freeway and see this red eclipse... say 97-99 body do a fly by next to me, so I drop it into 3rd and catch up to him.... he wouldnt slow down... was holding it at 80 mph on the freeway... to high for a 2nd gear punch like I like at 55 mph... so he forced me to go from 3rd gear as he wouldnt slow down... we punch it and we both hooked really good...by the time I shifted into 4 gear he was a car in front of me! Then I went into 5th gear and he was about 2 cars in front of me...! I hit my bright lights at him to slow down... no point as he was still pulling on me in 5th gear! I know he definitely was spraying on me and he had this huge intercooler on the front of his car... but had street tires on it! He definitely had a huge turbo... i have very very loud exhaust and all I could hear was his turbo spooling the entire time over my extremely loud exhaust!

All I can say is damn! That had to be a high 10 second car! For an import I give him props! I wish I had my other TA... has spray on it and about 440 to the wheel without the 75 shot... then that would have been a good race.....! But give him props... especially for an Eclipse!

The eclipse probably had a bigger turbo. Good death.

Does your car have something wrong with it?

^^^^

Why? Because he shouldn't lose to an Eclipse? Maybe the Eclipse was just fast!

Good death. At least you gave props. I respect you for that.

The reason most likely he didn't want to go from a slower roll is the lower speed would have put him at a bad section of his powerband. Either too early in 3rd or too late in 2nd and lag would have given him a bigger handicap. 80mph in 3rd gear is PERFECT MPH for a roll start on a big turbo 2.0L DSM in 3rd gear.

Better luck next time.

Haha..ok man. Gotcha.

PS: Was the Eclipse a FWD or AWD?

Reason I'm asking is the FWD 2Gs have silly gearing. They can wind out 3rd gear to 120mph hence why they preferred a higher MPH roll and to make sure they don't lose traction down low.

Do you normally loose traction at 80mph?

Anyways, good death. Only one guy can have the fastest car on the planet and I'm pretty sure he isn't out street racing. So it happens to all of us at some time.

Nice death. Too bad you couldn't get him to go from a slow roll.

Honorable death. 99 was the last year of a decent Eclipse. Nothing in common really with later stuff and the turbo cars are not at all like the POSs that you see ricing around.

1)Traction is not an issue at that speed.

2)Very few DSMs use the juice for some reason. It works well, but people generally only use boost.

3)High 10s I think not. He probably just traps like 5 MPH higher than you and runs like low 12s or 11s maybe.

From the sounds of things it was fwd and turbo GT-S model. Those things modded correctly are killers from a roll. I'm guessing this guy had a larger turbo and all the supporting mods. I wouldn't say it's a 10 second car maybe a low 12 second 1/4 car as they hook for **** at the track without slicks.

So, he had to be a 10 second car because it pulled 2 car lengths@ ~130mph on your high 12 second car?

Which one of your many TA's was this? The one with all of the aftermarket cams in it?

Yes

Ya if he is barely pulling on you and you have high 12s, he is not a 10 sec car

Now you just need to add 4 more cams to your car, and you'll really beat him.

Really, that was a low 12's car set up like my Son's car. Our GSX with the FPGreen and supporting mods puts down 350~ WHP on street tune of 20 PSI and is probably good for low 12's to very high 11's so the outcome is about right.

I have never been beaten by an Eclipse before..... still banging my head about it today! He may have been all boost... figured he sprayed on me with that result.... he was about 2 cars in front of me and slowly slowly pulling on me still.... was guessing that was a 10 second car... probably high 11's then....

I have my white 00 TA DD and a black 02 TA, the black TA I hardly drive... slowly making it a track car... It has about 430 to the wheels and then the 75 shot on it.... so probably right at 500 hp to the wheels. THe 00 TA is running really lean.... only excuse on losing the race... and I had my t-tops off... lol... but still not really that good of an excuse! I am going to take it to MTI tomorrow to get a tune on it... should help out a bit.

Well the 1st/2nd generation eclipses/talons/lasers have the turbo 4g63 motor in them.. both fwd and awd. That motor is also curently in the Mitsubishi Evolutions and they are no joke my friend when modded right. I have a friend that had a bunch of those cars and I have witnessed him spank many fast cars. Theres no shame in that kill!! So quit banging your head and wipe the tears from your eyes and get that thing tunned asap.

the evo 3 has the same motor. after that its the same code but the engines are different. same 2.0 but different layout, etc. on another note, awsome race man, must have been a fast dsm to get you at those speeds.

How big of injectors are you running? It seems like with that FPgreen, you could get a lot more power out of it if you wanted to, those things are mean.
EDIT: didn't see the -street tune- part, whats the race tune look like
