Default 06 Mustang Gt. Vs 99 Z28

We were dead even from several rolls. Did not launch at all, im thinking my clutch is on its last leg; as if i could actually pull off a good launch anyway. I can still cut them loose in second and Ive just got a lid and a cutout, but i was still expecting more. There was about 600lbs of cargo including me. I have some hefty friends. Ive actually raced this guy before and pulled about a car or 2 without passengers, but what gives? Stock for stock is the mustang so close? Im gonna meet up with him after i get my ls7 clutch and rear suspension done. Hopefully i just need a clutch.

i believe they run high 13s at a slightly slower trap speed than a 99 LS1, so with your weight, it makes perfect sense to me. you should be mid-13s at about 105 maybe? did he have any passengers?

When all is said and done, they are about .4-.5s slower in the 1/4, and ~5-7mph slower trapspeed than a strong-running LS1 with equal drivers.

I don' even think the difference is that big... the 99-04s trap about 98-100, the S197 should easily be able to trap within 5 mph of an F-body.

S197s only trap 101-102mph. Most of the difference is in the low/midrange, because of the better suspension/gearing, and the 3v design. They don't pull that hard up top.

It sounds right to me. You had too much extra weight! Ditch your friends

So far i agree with everything Irunelevens has said.

Why race with so much extra weight? It is definitely detrimental to you winning and it is alot harder on your car (ie - clutch, rearend, etc )!

lose the extra weight and you should take him by 3 cars...after running a couple sn197's, i have a new respect for them. my ET/mph was a 13.5 107.xx w/lid and loudmouth and my buddies bone stock 06 GT M5 did a 13.6 at 104.xx. it was each of our VERY FIRST RUN EVER at a track. they are comparable cars and now that he did a brenspeed tune (required with his CAI) and deleted his cats, he is just behind my rear bumper at ~110 from a 50 roll. when he was stock he lost by a good 2 to 3 carlengths from a 50 roll.

depnds on the Fbody, a m6 should be capable of 108-109mph stock while an auto and espcially a 2.73 geared auto will be nearer to 103-104mph.

yea that sounds exactly on the money to me. i raced smokin99 (99 camaro ss) about a month ago, from a 3rd gear pull and him with a passenger and me with none it was dead even to about 115 maybe 120, then we shut down. i would say the top end on the s197 wit just a tune and intake is better then a 99-01 cobra but not as good as a mach1. it is commin to see stock s197s to hit 13.6, 13.4 wit great drivers 13.8 with an ok driver.
