Default bolt on SS M6 vs bolt on Mach 1 M5

I ran into a black Mach 1 on the highway recently. It was a very nice looking car, had loud exhaust, and the guy wanted to play. We just did the casual 2nd gear roll race gear 40-110mph. He got a 1/2 car jump (I hate being the one doing the 3 honk count...) and I ended up with a 1/2 car on him. Other than the jump neither of us were the better driver, both hitting shifts like an automatic.

His car had long tubes, 2.5" o/r X, flowmaster catback, CAI, and a Predator tune. My mods are in the sig. This was the first Mach 1 I've raced, and I thought I should have come out a little better, particularly after 75. Does this sound about right or is something holding my car back? I beat an 01 Cobra w/ exhaust before the intake mods by ~ 2 carlenghts about 2 years ago.

Good kill. Mach 1s are no joke.

nice kill, your car is running kind of crappy, or the mach had more mods, 4.10's for example would do wonders on the 4v dohc engine.

That sounds about right to me. 01 cobra's and machs do have different heads and intake cams. One thing to consider that may agree with BlueGoat's comment....box predator tunes hurt these cars more than help. With exhaust mods, a dyno tune is best. If he had a box tune, there was alot more in that car.

Maybe he had some weight reduction?......over all though, this race sounds about right. Just one of my experiences, matches this......granted that was only one race, but I had my Ex-Wife's car, and raced an M6 Z with the SLP option, and we were neck and neck.

^ I rolled my eyes at that post too. But the outcome is about right. That's exactly what I was expecting. If the Mach had gears or weight reduction it would've been a little closer. The SS also has two additional mods that the Mach doesn't have. IMHO, the Mach held it's own pretty damn good. It definitely deserves more credit for that alone.

Yeah... about what I would have expected. If he had gears, it would have been dead even.

The Mach definitely did not have gears. It was pretty loud and each gear of his lasted almost as long as mine, definitely not what a 4.10+ geared car would do. It also did not have any weight reduction. It was just a very clean Mach with all the bolt ons. Plus we talked for a little bit in a fast food parking lot right after.

I suspected my car was running a bit sluggish last fall as I've beaten cars I shouldn't have 2 yrs ago. The plugs (TR-55s) are fresh as is the fuel filter, and A/F is 12.8-13/1 across the board. No pushrods were bent either. The only thing I can think of is worn out valve springs as the car has 109k on it. I do have some LS6's I got for cheap I'll throw on to see. I just can't afford a cam swap for awhile.

I raced one from a 70 mph roll last week, and only got him by a car length by the time we hit about 110 or so, and I'm doing low 12's and trapping near 110 in the 1/4. Mach's are no joke, and the one I raced hung with me alot better than I expected him to. Cool cars, and if I had to buy a Mustang and a 03 Cobra wasn't available, I'd buy the Mach for sure.

good clean run. I might add my .02 cents and say you didn't pull anymore because you shut it down at 110mph. If the race would have gone further you MIGHT have pulled a tad more.

Nice run, I like the Mach 1s, I never run into any around here so I can't really get any runs in

You guys are funny!!!! Why is when MACH 1s beat or hang with an LS1 or LS2 you think something must be wrong with your cars!!! Did you ever think that a fast car just might be running with you???? To make it even worse, it is a Ford, it had 60 Cubic inches less than you, and is Normally Aspirated. I can understand the frustration especially when you know that even if you can beat a MACH 1 than you have another fast Ford on top of it (SVT Cobra). Come on guys...just give respect where it is due...and this is comming from an ex 2001 Z28 owner.
