Default Threesome with an SRT-8 Charger and 05+ GT.

So I'm on the slow lane, on my way to the pet store to buy food for the dog, driving at about 60mph. When I notice a white 05+ Mustang GT with blue racing stripes and a body kit on the fast lane coming up fast. At first I thought it could be the GT500, but no such luck.
Anyways, I continue going the speed limit and he passes me and just keeps on going. I figured he doesn't wanna play because well, seems no one wants to play with me (I don't even remember when my last street encounter was).

As I keep driving at around 60mph I see him fading into the horizon, when I see a couple of cars about to get on 95 and one of them was a nice looking red charger between 2 other cars. I then get on the middle lane to let them merge in peace.
At this point I'm passing all three cars. As I'm passing the Charger, I notice the SRT8 badge and some blond chick driving it blasting some kinda music (Couldn't make it out because of my exhaust).

I pass them all at about 65mph and then get back to the right lane. As I'm merging I hear this ******* car coming behind me and getting into the middle lane. She does a flyby and I finally hit it while she was about 3 car lengths ahead and I couldn't catch up, so I just give up and stay mad.

A few minutes later up ahead, traffic is slowing down a bit because of some big trucks blocking everything and there we are...The Mustang, The Charger and myself...

One of the trucks finally gets off 95 I get on it some to pass the craziness. I then see the Charger, followed by the Mustang behind me going through the hole I just opened.

So here's the deal. Three nice cars and open road ahead.

99 Trans Am (Me)- Left lane
05+ Mustang GT- Middle lane
Charger SRT8- Right lane

At around 60mph the GT rolls his windows down and holds three fingers up but the Charger just jumps for some reason. As soon I noticed her hitting it, so did I (Good reaction time baby ), with the GT being the last to go.

She had like a car on me up until 65-70mph then I passed her. We went to like 90mph and I had like 2 1/2 to 3 lengths on her. I think the GT gave up because he started so late.

Run 2:

We line up again, and with no traffic behind us or out front we all slow down to around 50-55mph to let the GT catch up. He finally catches up and they (him and chick) try say something to each other but I doubt they could hear anything.

After that drama the GT guy turns to me and does the 3 finger thing, which I assume is three horns.

This time we all hit it at the same time (around 50mph). It was me and the GT out front while Charger was about half a length back but creeping forward on the GT, while I pulled a bit faster on them both. At the end of the run (around 100-110mph), I had about 3 to 4 lenghs on the Charger, while the GT was like 2 lenghs behind the Charger.

The driver of the GT somehow lost his sunglasses out the window on that last run. .

I know it was long, so here are some cliff notes:

Run 1: 60 to 90mph
T/A wins by about 2 against the Charger, the GT was way back

Run 2: ~50-110mph
T/A wins by about 4 lengths against the Charger, the Mustang GT was about 2 lengths behind the Charger.
-----------------------------

My car: Cammed, intake/exhaust, stalled auto, suspension, bald Nittos.
-12.3@112mph (bad tranny)

Other cars: No clue

Thanks for reading

Wish I knew what mods the other cars had. Sounds like they did decently, didn't win of course, but decent compared to your cammed ls1.

I don't know man. I thought SRT8's were supposed to be the Supras of the big *** four door fast sedan category.
At least that what I read at some SRT8 forum.

SRT-8s are low-mid 13s cars, in general... with trapspeeds very similar to LS1s. So races between those and S-197s tend to be about the same as races between A4 LS1s and S-197s; decent race at lower speeds, with the SRT-8 pulling ahead at higher speeds.

Nice runs. Sounds to me like the Charger was bone stock (ASSuming since a chick was driving it) and on the 2nd run she wasn't holding 2nd gear but letting the tranny downshift. I wonder if she had the ESP partially off.

Either way, the outcome vs. your car is expected.

nice kills...poor mustang owner...I swear they don't feel that slow riding in them...I guess they just weigh too much for that small displacement engine

No, Ford just doesn't feel the need to make them anymore powerful... however I heard the GT is getting beefed up considerably in '09 (because of the new Camaro), so I'm interested in seeing how that pans out.

And how do you know that? Where you in the car with her? Or are you just trying to defend the car seeing as how that's what you own?

It's called "speculation" based on the OP's statement, "This time we all hit it at the same time (around 50mph). It was me and the GT out front while Charger was about half a length back but creeping forward on the GT".

And yes, owning one, I know exactly how the car reacts.

If your comprehension was better, you would understand. Check out my last statement, too.

There was nothing to defend. It beat the car it should, it lost to the car it should.

What does your SRT8 run with those numbers (385/382)?

I agree.

A Predator SURE does help them out though. Shifts are night and day higher around 6600-6700rpm. Does not help traction though.

Thanks but only on DRs and if I get enough room in the staging lanes to avoid the damn 2-3 diagnostic shift. With that occurring I haven't trapped past 106.5mph. Bone stock with that problem it was 103.5mph.

At 370/355 I trapped 108mph at Sac. but traction is always my problem, especially there.

The .1 second for every 10hp probably doesn't quite hold true for 4100lb vehicles, either.

Nice kills, LH.

There is some speculation that Ford will go to the 5.4 in GTs sometime soon and a new engine entirely for 2010 (the hurricane experimental motor line).

They better do something...
