Talking My WS6 vs 01 cobra

Got my first "call out" race today on my way home from work. I was driving to the highway and I see a white stang pulling out of a gas station to my right, and he points at me as I go by, so naturally I slow down a little and wait. He gets up to me and I see its a cobra, roll down the window and tell him its a clean ride (very nice, lowered). He says thanks, its an '03. Well, I'm thinking to myself that he's missing some things I know of from my buddies terminator -

The 10" wide tires
The hood (he has the earlier cobra V6 carry over one)
The whine

This is a good setup, a real termi would most likely hand me my ***. We get on the highway and I pace him for a minute, then traffic clears and I get on the left of him, he waves 3 fingers for 3 honks and I nod, drop to 3rd at 60mph. He honks it off and I pull immediately, run 3rd up to 5800 and granny shift to 4th with my bad syncros to a total of about 4 cars by 110-120ish (thats a guess, I could see both his headlights so he was a bit back), and then I had to slam on my brakes to not miss my exit.

We gave thumbs up and split. Good race all in all, but he still had the dealer plate things on it so I'll assume he just bought it and was fed a line about it being supercharged. I'm guessing on the 01 part because it had the cobra back bumper as well, I read on here that the 99 still said mustang or whatever. He had a guy in the car with him, I think they thought they were in for an easy kill.

I didn't know 03 Cobras came with 10" wide tires. Hmmm, learn something new every day.

Can't the stock wheels fir 315s? Don't you have to have 10" wide wheels for that?

I dunno what size they exactly are, I know they looked a little wider than mine side by side though on the stock rims and had said they were 17x10 if I remember right. Definitely not the skinny ones this guy had was my point. I don't know a whole lot about mustangs so correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, this guy had under-axle exhaust when I rolled up behind him at the stoplight before the highway, was that 03-04 only? I'm 100% sure it wasn't a termi, but it did a lot better than a regular GT and sounded like the 32v cars I've heard.

There are no 17X10 03 Cobra wheels out there. Your friend is a liar.

99-01 had IRS thus the "under axle" exhaust. Also 99-01 Cobras had 17x8" wheels.

Ah thanks. I knew they looked narrower to me but I wasn't sure of the size. Does the 03-04 have 9.5 like the SS and WS6?

They all have under-axle-back exhaust. Looks like 2 big seperate mufflers tihgt up under the body. All those bodystyle cobras had that.

Thanks for the info guys, I was pretty excited as this is only my second "slow down and honk" race after owning the car for a year. I try to see if the mustangs here want to play all the time (californias state animal), but they have a different game called weave-thru-traffic/catch me if you can.

I had a nice red 95 Cobra do that to me after he reved at me in traffic when my 5.0 was bolt ons and nitrous. I followed him onto the interstate and he was GONE! Was doing stupid moves in and out of traffic. I was thinking "Ok what are we supose to be doing here? See who can stay the longest before we get in a wreck?" I turned off on the next exit and went the way I was going to begin with. I even opened the bottle for him.

I wathed a guy in a 03-04 cobra vert doing that the other day, I got next to him and he had 3 passengers trying to squeeze in there, then he took off like a madman for like 5 miles.

Surprising. It's usually cobra guys around here that also have a completely non-ricer style of driving. Must be that so-cal F&F **** again...

He doesn't represent the majority.

Mustang guys around here are mostly idiots. I watched a 01 Cobra race another car then blast past cars on the shoulder at 80-90mph in a 45mph zone.
