Default 2000 Camaro Z28 vs C5 Corvette

Hey guys, tonight i had a random race with a C5 Corvette M6. It was on a highway with little to no traffic. It was only my second race since getting the Camaro. The other was a planned race against a S2000 which i won by about 8 cars from 45-110. As for the Vette, i saw him in the right lane and came up behind him, switched lanes, and floored it by him.

We caught the very next light and he pulled up to me and rolled his window down. He said "what ya got?" I said i'm all stock but that we have the same engine. He said "all i have is a Corsa exhaust." I asked if he was a auto and he said "no, manual." I knew i'd lose but i wanted to see by how much so he said to go at the light and see what happens...i obliged.

So i stalled the car up with a brake stall (1800 RPM) and let it rip as the light flashed green. I spun all the way across the intersection and he left off the idle, and had a car and a half on me by the time i caught traction. He was a pretty bad driver and once i finally caught traction he began his 1-2 shift and i pulled to within a car. He then began to pull again until he shut it down at about 80mph being 2 cars ahead.

Then we ran again, from a 35mph roll (perfect for me). I did the three honks and floored it on the second to catch on the third. He immediately began pulling. He had about a car on me before he shifted to third, and then i pulled to within a half car, until he walked it out to a car and a half lead before shutting it down around 100mph.

All in all, it was a fun race to let me know where i stood. He has better gearing, a lighter car and better aerodynamics. I have 4.10's sitting in my room waiting to be installed. I honestly feel as though if i had them installed then i wouldve won. By the way, i'm stock except for a K&N filter. I even have 2.73 gears in an A4.

Nice runs
4.10's are a little much for an auto though. I wouldn't go any more than 3.90's

Great runs. Incentive to mod up!

And I agree, those 4.10s are going to be REAL steep for your auto. If you drive it a lot on the street, I'd keep it to 3.42s or maybe 3.73s if you do a lot of racing.

Those 4:10s won't help you from a dig. Your going to spin even worse. I have to go from atleast 40 if I don't wanna spin. Good race tho.

I'm sticking with the 4.10's to at least try them out. The Camaro is my daily driver but I have always had cars that were excessive on the street. For example i had a Foxbody Mustang with a HUGE cam, a S2000 with 4.77 gears, etc. I can deal with topping out around 110-120mph because i never go past it anyways. I also don't care about gas mileage at all. If i did, i wouldn't have gotten this car.

I have just spoken with a couple local people who have 4.10 autos and they love it to death. I also RARELY go on the highway. I'll have them thrown in soon and see what happens. I will be investing into MT DR's soon as well.

I truly did not want a stall converter because i go to the track once in a blue moon, but i think i'm going to end up getting one after all. The main reason i decided on getting a stall is because i'm leaning towards a very large street cam...like a MS3 or MS4. Having a stall would make it much more driveable. Like i said, though, my daily drivers are always extreme. That's why i chose 4.10's and will be getting a Magic Stick.

Hopefully i'll find another C5 after the break in of the gears because by that time (500 mile break in) i'll also have a MTI lid and a Hooker catback. I think i'd easily take out a C5 as long as it was close to stock form like the exhaust only vette i ran.

regardless of fuel mileage, traction, ect it still seems 4.10s in a 4l60 would be a waste...first gear is just too damn short

with my 3.42s and a 700r4 (4l60) its like having an old th350 with 4.10s

my weak little 350 (310-320 crank hp) would hate anything deeper than what I have...already wants to burn off the 295s as is

Seeing as though i have an auto, being too short wouldn't be an issue. I could see where being a manual with a 4.56 gear set (comparable to 4.10's in a A4) would be too much because the driver would have to take the time to shift. There wouldn't be that problem in an auto. I think with a good set of MT drag radials on the rear it'd trap quite a bit higher than "3" gearsets.
