Default Corolla - Frozen Rear Suspension in Cold Weather?

In my 98 corolla I notice that when its really cold out (under 20 degrees), I'll hit a bump and the rear will blast off into outer space. Its rediculous! It will raise me an inch out of my seat sometimes. Are the shocks frozen or something? Any fixes for this? This problem is giving me turrets whenever I drive the car.

The car rides good any other time.

Lol

The shocks were going bad on my old DD 94 oldsmobille and it was the same way. It rode OK most of the time, but durring cold winter days it was like it had no suspension.

I hope they don't go bad anytime soon. Replacing the rear shocks on this car is kind of a job.

I dove mine like that for a couple years, lol. I still haven't replaced them... and even though i picked up a TA a few months back thats now my daily driver... i still drive the oldsmobille a lot.

If you can live with it i wouldn't mess with it.

I can live with it. I've already learned not to set a drink of any kind in the cup holder.

Yes, cold weather exposure (especially the extreme weather you describe) WILL affect the dampening fluid in your shocks which then affects the performance of them. other factors to consider as well are age (how worn they are) and valving, which can worsen this problem.

The only thing I could think of in the meantime is have the car parked inside a garage or indoor parking space away from the outside cold environment.

I have a garage but its not heated. The good thing is its not below 20 most of the winter. The past couple days its been around 0! though...yeah. I just got home tonight and it was like I was 4 wheelin through a jungle or something. I think it is just the drivers rear side though. I'm so glad its gonna be 39 tomorrow.

at least it could be less cold, but at least it could be better than the absolute outside.
