Default Possible koni problem?

Hey all. I currently have the front end of my car torn apart chaning the upper strut mounts and ball joints, and i noticed that i can compress the front shocks (konis) by hand pretty easily. I have the Koni 4/4 that i bought from Sam Strano. I was curious if the valving in them is shot or what the deal is. I tried to do the same thing on my stockers and i couldnt do it unless i turned it upside down and balance myself on it. Any help would be appreciated.

probably about 8 months, maybe a year. They are way softer than my stockers on the compression side. Any my stockers have about 50k on them

With close to 1,000.00 shocks on the car, ide check everything man. Better safe then sorry. So you can almost compress the shock by hand?

Go to Koni's website get the phone # and call them. They are very helpful and more than willing to accommodate you. I talked to them about not being able to turn my adjusters and they were ready to send me a new pair of shocks.

Sweet that is good to hear. I was just wondering if they were going to be a pain to deal with or not.

Koni is great! My shock adjusters spun freely never stopping either and I faxed Koni the purchase order and they sent me replacement shocks right away. You do have to pay a percentage of the shock cost up front but they refund it when they agree and warranty the dzamaged shock(s).

No it's not. Please, for the love of God don't say things you don't know. Stock shocks are mono-tubes, and have about 325 psi of nitrogen pressure in them, Koni's are twin-tubes and have about 120 psi. Which do you think would easier to compress, the shock with the extra 200 or so pounds of gas pressure????? I don't think so.

Look, I know it's very easy to just post up an quick question to the 'net. But the trouble it's easy to get a quick (and wrong) answer too.

The whole basis for at least two guys saying the the shocks are busted stems from the fact they are more easily compressed by hand. No other knowledge, nothing. I'm sorry if this comes off as harsh, but it's a bit frustrating. It's like saying one brand of clutch has less pedal effort than another, so it must be crap......

FWIW, I saw nothing in this entire thread to indicate a failure. No leaks, not broken adjusters, no funny feeling on ride.... you know the things you should use to diagnose a failure.

So they will be a bit softer on the compression side?

Sorry that was a mistake on my part for not throwing a better description of the problem up. Originally i had taken the front end apart to change the upper shock mounts and i had noticed that it was VERY easy to compress them. Took very little effort. Then when it started to push the piston back out, it barely had enough pressure to do this, especially on the drivers side.
As far as the ride goes, it was VERY rough, like i would venture to say it was bottoming out quite a bit of the time. I replaced them with the stock shocks to test a theory and the ride immediatly smoothed out. I would say probably 99% of the harshness was gone. Not saying the konis wouldnt take all of this out, but from how it was it rode much much better.
The adjusters are fine, and i couldnt see any leaks, but if it has/had a slow gas leak i may not see it?
