brake problem

brake problem ok. have a brake question here. for some reason my brake light is on. the car sit all winter and i had a rear cover seal go bad so i pulled the tranny ad put a new rear cover seal in ( rear main?). anywho, i put everything back together but now the damn brake light is on. heres the weird thing. i know the trans has nothing to do with the brakes by the way. if i start the car it does not come on. if i pull the e brake on and off it comes on and off. once i put it in gear, it comes on and doesnt turn off again until i shut the ignition off. now the abs light is on because i have a different rear in the car but has allways been on. any suggestions guys? thx, shawn
