Default Camaro Caliper Questions.. Im confused..

Ok long story short, I totaled a 1999 SS. I parted it out in 07 and still have tons of parts laying around. Well I finally got back into a Camaro, and since Ive got the car Im going back through it.

Heres my confusion:
I removed all four calipers, and they looked small. So I remembered I had my old calipers from my SS (the red ones pictured). Side by side the my old calipers are wayy bigger. Thats funny. Why would calipers from a 1999 SS be different from a 1999 Z28.

1999 Camaro SS
Front Caliper Part No. 18023839
Rear Caliper Part No. 21d04

1999 Camaro Z28
Front Caliper Part No. 22n05
Rear Caliper Part No. 21A7

Why is their a big difference?

The previous owner replaced them. What you have for your SS came on all 98+ F-bodies.

No telling. He could have had a friend w/ an LT1 car and swapped before selling. Almost anything could have happened with that.

Its just goofy, he has a 13 inch rotor with baer relocation brackets up front, dont really understand why they would be there for any other reason. Well, guess Ill be looking to change it back to stock

My guess, and supported by the fact that the front calipers have been ground, the car did run 15" front and rear drag wheels.

And from the pics you posted a see QA-1 (drag) shocks, and the rear brakes appear to be mounted with custom brackets, and no dust shields . . .

I don't know what your front spindle looks like . . . but a LT1 front spindle is WAY different that a LS1 spindle . . .

Yes the car had been drag raced. I plan on doing the same. I was just curious why the calipers were so different. I just dont like going through a car and finding things I havent been told about when I asked. Thats all. I like honesty, and maybe he forgot to add that part.

No the bogarts didnt go with the car.

Yeah, its running a sparco steering wheel.

Hm m m , interesting mods . . . custom brackets front and rear to run LT1 style brake calipers . . . but run bigger rotors . . .

They are cut LT1 spindles, not cut LS1 spindles, since I can see the very large cut line in the picture . . .

Is it a true LS1 car? and not a LT1 car with a front end swap? . . . . seems like an awful lot of work . . .

I use that style front bracket on my Camaro for the C5 brake conversion . . .

I wonder if the owner did a poor mans Baer Sport / Track brake swap? . . . . Baer used PBR calipers . . . just like oem . . .

That link looks exactly like my calipers....

Yeah its a true LS1 car, vin number matches, the car was NBM. I believe that option was only available for LS1 cars. I may be mistaken..

Ummm, no they're not.

LT1 front calipers were cast iron and single piston.

This is what one looks like...

The dirty rear calipers do appear to be LT1 rears however.

LT1 spindles have "ears" for the caliper...

LS1 spindles do not...

I almost think that they are an early Baer Brake set-up, but I'm not 100% sure.

Looks like a C4 caliper --> http://www.coppercorvette.com/c4calipers.htm

The middle one pictured (Non-GS) fits a 13" rotor. Strange that someone would go through so much effort to put an earlier brake component on this car.
