Default Broken rear rotor, help w/ questions please

here is the damage on one of my rear rotors. i purchased them used, they were shipped fedex, im not sure if it was previous damage that was missed by the previous owner ( not fully broken off, just cracked before being shipped and fully broken off in transit ), or just plain transit damage. will this chunk of missing metal effect the performance or usage of the rotor at all? or are they usable still, i.e. normal driving, normal brake usage, and only the parking brake will be unusebale or trouble using it? the car is a 99 trans am, 6spd & 10 bolt. any help is greatly appreciated

Let me preface this by saying I'm no expert on this... but the way it looks to me, you wouldn't have any braking problems as that isn't your braking surface. However, what you WOULD have a problem with would be balance. That sucker is gonna vibrate pretty good at speed.

I wouldn't use it.

I agree with Sparky, not only will you have balance problems, but if it's mounted off by any margin (a few .001" or so), you're going to warp those rotors very fast.

Being broken in of itself would reveal that there's going to be material structure problems. No matter the cost, I'll never install a rotor that has an immediately detectable defect like that. Even on brand new rotors, I still use a dye treatment after a few hundred miles to attempt to spot any visible cracks.

The only brake parts that I'd purchase used would be most brake parts with the exception of pads and rotors (except the hats on floating rotor systems).

A rhetorical question would be, "is it worth your safety and others to go cheap on a part like that."

buy a new set of rotors and ceramic pads for $200 from brake motive, a sponsor on here. why the hell would you want that scrap metal on your car?

I hope you're not serious.

Buy new rotors. That would be a horrible idea to try and use those.
