Default Strano Swaybars Chrome Moly?

Anyone know, are Strano Swaybars Chrome Moly? His site does not say...

I know Spohn does solid CM sways, and Edelbrock does hollow front CM sways...

My bars are made with ST52.3 steel alloy wtih a tensile strength of 85,000 psi and a yield of of 75,000 psi.

Thats badass considering the wall thickness. I work with tubing everyday (QT800) I didnt know the performance aspect of your bars but this does say a lot. Thanks for the info.

Question

Thanks.

Supposedly ST52.3 is unalloyed:
http://www.metalravne.com/selector/steels/st523.html

For discussion purposes, are there any pros/cons with the current choice of ST52.3 steel vs. chrome moly? I know Spohn has CM sways (but solid, not hollow)...

i.e. is a move to chrome moly sways in the cards for a revision?

CM is not magic you know. In fact because of the way it's treated it's actually more brittle when you twist it.... and since swaybars are torsion bars--and twist it's use is mostly hype.

I am not a metallurgist. I have the bars made to my spec for roll stiffness and balance and performance in use based upon what I want/expect for performance handling. The bars are made for me, with engineering expertise from, Hellwig products in CA. They make bars for the US Border Patrol and the US Military too (they are putting bars on M-RAP's).

Worrying about CM vs not and ignoring the fact that Spohn's bars are both solid (much heavier) and their front is 3mm smaller (much softer) is a huge red herring.

Well, CM or not I ordered a set last night. Can't wait to get them, I had the UMI 35/22 set before and they were very heavy but nice pieces, should be about the same performance though?

I did note they were solid... My point was discussion around the idea of your (hollow) sways going CM, and pros/cons of that change, esp. since I have yet to see hollow CM Camaro sways.

So when are your sways going on sale?

The yield and tensile strengths are in lbs/square inch, so they do not take into consideration the wall thickness. The strength of the material would be the same if they were 2" solid or 1mm hollow.

Normal 4130 Chromoly actually has a lower yield strength but slightly higher ultimate strength. So it would deform easier but be harder to break. Unless someone is actually breaking these bars it probably doesnt matter.

The change in modulus of elasticity might make a difference, but Sam already had these designed for the performance he wanted. If he wanted stiffer he would have designed them that way.

Some more questions:

1. Hotchkis 15/16" Rear Sway 3 Adjustment Settings are 225,240,255 lbs/in, so what are the Strano Rear Adjustable Sway settings?
2. What is the non-adjustable Strano Rear Sway lbs/in. standard?
3. What is 4140 Chrome Moly on the Strano Rear adjustable, just the hardware I assume? http://www.stranoparts.com/partdetai...=126&ModelID=7

What's the stock rear bar in lbs/in? It doesn't matter, what matters is balance. I don't have a jig to measure the bars in lbs/in, and frankly I don't care to. the 22mm bar non-adjustable rear bar is about 30% stiffer than a stock 19mm rear bar.

The adjustable rear bar itself is 4140, wasn't my choice, don't really care. In fact I run the adjustable rear--but personally still on the softest setting because more, on my car, is too much for my needs.

The previous poster hit the nail on the head, we played with a lot of bar sizes and tubing until I found what I like best. I don't care what the number is on it, kind of like finding the timing setting that makes the most power and won't blow your engine up. Numbers are relative.
