Default what causes brake pads to not want to grip?

Car ain't braking worth a damn. Hydros, calipers seem fine and pedal feels normal. I currently have lower grade napa pads that have less than 3k miles.

Maybe the pads are damaged and don't grip. Is this possible?

Need some more info.
1) Any noises, rattles, shaking coming from the brakes?
2) Brake fluid level good?
3) Did you open up the brake system when you replaced the pads by any chance? (Air in the system?)
4) Are the rotors new, reused, or resurfaced? If resurfaced, do you know the new thickness?
5) Are the pads wearing evenly?

There are several things it could be, most likely something simple. Try checking the system over, and maybe going ahead and bleeding the system changing out to some new fluid, and go from there. Just my .02

1. No.
2. Yes
3. I had the calipers off a couple years ago. Doubt there is any air because the pedal feels good and is not reall soft or "low".
4. Rater new napa rotors.
5. Yes

It takes a lot of effort on the pedal to stop. Almosy impossible to lock them up and kick in the ABS. My minivan and truck in terms of braking make my 1995 Camaro with full LS1 brakes BTW, look like ****.

Any oily residue on the rotor or pad surface? Did you break them in, bed the pads, all that?

My experience is that this is usually caused by the slider pins binding up. If that's your issue, then they just may need to be lubricated or replaced.

Did you clean them up and re-lube them when you did your last brake job?

Thanks guys. Spider pins are good and greased. The pads were broke in correctly.

I am going to pull the pads and mill about .030 off of them and see what happens. That should remove any damaged surfaces.

have you tried lifting it off the ground, have someone push the brake pedal and try rotating the tires? might sound dumb but you could have a master cylinder problem if all wheels spin
