Spring press question???

Spring press question???
Working on taking my front springs apart & I rented the Autozone spring press & I'm having issues. I am running the Hotchkis springs & there isn't enough room in between the coils to get the blocks for the press in there. There are 2 coils at the top of the spring that are far enough apart so I started there & have been spinning the blocks around the spring to get them further down.
Problem with that is that they are still REAL tight & I am having to use two pry bars to pry the coils apart enough to move the block 1/4" at a time. I have been at it for two hours & I'm only 3 coils into it. There has got to be a better way. Anybody else run into this or am I just unlucky, or am I retarded?

Why cant you just compress them from where the blocks fit between the coils? There is also another type of compressor that you can either buy or possibly rent from Kragen that utilizes "u-bolts" to grab the coils which are much thinner than the blocks, they also lock in more securely since they are physically bolted onto the coils.
Do you have photos of where your trying to grab these coils?

That's one of the problems with Hotchkis springs and their hugely progressive design (ignoring the rate changes as you're driving).
