Default Possible bad ball joints?

I have read through many threads and cant seem to find an instance of the same problem I am having. I just purchased a 2000 trans am ws6 with 116k miles on it. I am in the process of going through all changing all the fluids and while the car was on the jackstands I decided to give the front wheels a tug. I noticed that there is a good bit of movement in the front wheels along the horozontal axis when pulling and pushing on alternating sides(more so on the drivers side than the passenger) but no noticeable movement on the vertical axis.

What would cause this?

How about a bad tie rod end?

Just my $0.02 worth, at 116K miles, probably ALL the moving parts in the suspension have some excessive play in them....

Yep start with the outer tie rod ends. Those get alot of work, then see how much slosh is in the tie rod itself.

There is quite of bit of items I would check, upper ball joints, lower ball joints, and the lower A arm caster bushings.

Good Luck, suspension can be a PITA when tracking down a single problem, so like anything else troubleshoot and eliminate one thing at a time.

Thanks. It seems to me that if it were the ball bearings I would hear some noise from the tire when it was spinning so I will probably start with the tie rod ends and go from there.
