Quick question. If I have a stock suspension on a 97 z28 and I bought some 17 x 9.5 TTII's would the stance and ride height look ok? I have heard of some people swapping out their stock rims and then the gap in the fender is too big. I plan on doing shocks and springs in the future but dont have the money to get everything at once.

It kind of varies car to car....and person to person. Usually with larger wheels a drop makes it look nicer, but it's really personal preference. I definitely wouldn't worry about it, if you don't like it then keep saving for some good shocks/springs.
