Default daily drive BMR k member and arms

Hello all,

My track car is getting ready for street duty... 40 miles a day mixed driving. It has a BMR turbo K member (mild steel) and a-arms with manual rack. The manual rack is easy to turn, so no big deal there. My concern is for the k member and arms... how are they for extended street use? Do I need to put a factory k member back in it? The turbo has been replaced with a supercharger, so the room is not a concern any longer.

Thanks.

Can't speak for BMR but I daily my UMI k with no issues about 24+ miles a day. Can't really see how the BMR would be any different.

I would not go through all that trouble. They all advertise these k members as streetable. The earlier versions may not have been. Now your a arms may be more troublesome in the long run if they are rod ends.

Yes, the aft end has a rod end on it. I guess it will get noisy?

friend of mine bought a car with a tubular k member and a arms on it (I believe BMR) and had the rod end completely sheared off as he was just driving down the road, could have been a cheap replacement rod end or freak occurance but losing a front end component that important is not worth the risk to me

I wouldn't do it

Being that I've seen BMR K-members crack before I wouldn't do it. They really aren't designed for lateral loads like the UMI unit. Also the lower A-arm shock mounts are known to deform on almost any brand so I'd throw the stock A-arms on too. You also don't need an agressive alignment for the street and the ride will suffer from rod ends. The last thing I will say about rod ends is that when they fail it is not a pretty sight. There is really little to be gained by leaving those on for a street car and the stock parts have proven to be stronger units. Also you could bring in a little extra cash by selling those parts. I'm sure others will dissagree with me but I would just rather err on the side of safety.

I agree completely. I was really considering going with a whole tube from end when I DD my trans am but after a lot of research I found that the parts do not hold up well to street driving. Like said above. The lateral movement is a killer. I kept stock front end and K member. Much more durable and the savings is not that important on the street.

I run BMR tubefront end without any issues. Sepherical rod ends on the control arms. I don't notice any noise but im engine is also a monster. Im sure if you go over speed bumps or hit a pot hole at 40+ your going to have an issue but if you pay attention and avoid potential issues you will be fine.

I live in Oklahome... I don't know what a smooth road is. I guess I could start by selling the lower control arms and putting the stock ones on for now.
