Default Any qa1 guys have a problem going through upper strut mounts?

Last year I put qa1s on my 01 ta. I've got maybe 1k miles on them and both the rubber upper strut mounts have failed. First the right side and now the left.

They are just tearing. I put new ones on when I did the struts.

What gives?

I don't have any pics. its Just the standard qa1 setup for an fbody with the front struts and 275lbs spring, rear qa1 shocks with stock springs.

I don't run spacers just the standard washers they give you for the nut at the top

I am pretty sure your issue is that you don't have the rubber washer piece that sits on the top of the stru mount to spread out the load. Without that piece it puts all the load in a very small area which leads to failure. Here are a couple pictures of what I am talking about.

Yeah it is the picture on the left. That piece sits on the top of the strut mount in the right picture. You may want to pull yours out real quick and verify that piece is there.

They generally don't, most people will reuse their old one or buy a new one from the parts store. If you need one here is the brand and part number of one I quickly found, RAYBESTOS Part # 5201160.
