Question Springs front

So do the front springs really wear out over time? If so....i would like to replace them when i do the shocks. What would be a good spring to get? I do not want to drop the car it sits low enough to the ground as it is. Should I call GM and get a replacement for my Z28 or maybe an SS spring? I most likely will end up getting the KYB AGX Shocks because I want the adjustable type. I was also looking at Tokico but have not heard any good things about them.

how many miles are on your car?
Springs can wear but you should notice them sagging if thats the case.
Put that money toward better shocks, you wont regret that, it will be the biggest difference you will notice suspension-wise.
As for the springs check moogs site, seems one spring is a little taller than the other, but both are the same rates (stock LS1 rates 290lbs/in).

Miles lol 290,000 and runs like new. The car is my DD @ 200 highway miles a day. I'm thinking about the KYB because I will be able to make adjustments to the shock until I get something I like.

run slp springs, if your car is sagging you wont notice a difference in height and you will see a handling gain... they are like 1/2-3/4" drop also i would also go with a better shock if you can afford it because a bilstien will greatly out live that kyb

Man, you are on top of suspension threads lol. Any time I see a post about shocks or anything...BOOM you are the like the first person to respond. OP, he is right. Good shocks would be your best bet over replacing the springs. I doubt your springs are worn out.

Which one of those springs has the lower ride height? I would think its the SS springs but they have a higher "free height" and a heavier load. ??

OK Now how about what and where would i take a measurement to see if i really Need Springs to begin with. The car does not seem to sag at all, just old and i thought maybe they would need changing? Thanx for all the replies.

If they don't seem to sag, then I would say there good.
IMO, you'll probably want to change the upper mounts, if you've never changed them.

Thats some miles!
KYB AGX arn't terrible, but I hate the fact that they adjust compression and rebound at the same time, meaning if you want more rebound for better control, feel, stability you also get stuck with a more jarring choppy ride. Then add in the fact they are lowish quality and there have been a few members on here that had the rears break at the mounting point to the axle... Another reason Konis are worth the money, you get to independently adjust rebound with a fixed compression (meaning good ride + good handling) and they are built much better (and have a lifetime warranty).

Look at the links I posted, they give spring specs at the bottom.

I guess a taller spring under the same compression would give a slightly stiffer ride?

LS1121 - good question! I logged on this morning to ask just this same thing. I've got 231K miles on my '99 Z28 and I'm also wondering if the springs (all the way around) wear out at some point. I don't notice the car sagging at all, but it does seem like it moves around a bit more at speed in cross-winds. I want to replace the front bushings this spring, and probably replace shocks again, so it would be better to catch the springs if they are bad.

It's good to see that you have hit 290K miles and the car runs well. This is the highest mileage that I've ever put on a car, and I'm wondering how much longer it will last!!

Thanks.

Bill
