Default Odd brake wear

I just swapped my 3.08 open rear w/ drums for a 3.42 rear w/ disc. I did this on Sunday and have drive the car every day since, no stopping problems or anything. But today I looks at my rear driver side rotor and it looked like a rotor that had been sitting for a while except for the outter 3/4". What could be the cause of this? I know you cant really adjust the pads, so Im kind of at a loss on what to do. The rotors are brand new as are the pads (ceramics).

Here are some pics

Driver side

Passenger side

If it matters any, this is a rear from a 97 M6 SS.

It should look like the one on the passenger side.

I know this is a dumb question, but what do the pads on the drivers side look like?

Is the wear the same on the inner side of the driver's side rotor?

What do you mean what do the pads look like? Just like the ones on the passenger side. lol.

I have not looked on the inside of the rotor, I will do that here in a few and report back later when Im off work.

Someone on another board suggested looking at the slide pins and making sure they are greased up. I remember taking the driver side caliper apart and the slide pins didnt have much lube on them, but it looks like enough to me. Im kinda hoping that is the problem since I'll have to relube the pins and be done.

I was wondering if the pads were tapered at all.

I just had a seized guide pin on the front of one of my C5 brackets.
Pull off the caliper then pull on each guide pin.

They should move out and pull back in.

I would lube the guide pins as well as the contact points for the pad to the hardware.

Taking it to the shop today so I can put it on a lift and deal with this.

Both sides of the rotor look like that, btw.

Have you noticed an unusual amount of heat, or a burning brake smell, from that side? The 97's have the parking brake built in to the caliper correct? There are only so many things to check. The guide pins as someone mentioned. The brake piston, make sure it isn't cocked. The parking brake piston movement, and the pad surfaces themselves.

I havent noticed any kind of brake smell, and I was driving it decently hard until I saw this brake wear.

And yes, the 96-97's have the parking brake built into the caliper.

My guess is it's the pads on that side.

x2 simplest and easiest place to check first is for a defective or unflat pad surface

Just checked it all out. The slide pins on that side didn't have hardly any grease on them. the pads looked fine. Went ahead and greased both caliper's slide pins. After a short drive you can tell the car stops better and the brake pattern is better. Thanks for the help guys!

Well, I thought that fixed the problem, but it is still doing it. I took the outter pad off that side and it did seem to be worn funny. I swapped that outter pad with the outter pad of the passenger side. Took it for a pretty hard braking drive and still no difference.

So I know its not the slide pins and it isnt the pads, so what else? The back of the rotor is contacting perfectly on the driver side, and the passenger side wears perfectly front and back.

Did you have to force the pads into the caliper bracket? Did you replace the bracket hardware? Did you have to force the caliper over the new pads?

I greased them, so how else could they be bad? The slide easily now.

1) Not really. As Im sure you know you just push the pad down and they slide in place. Really no resistance.
2) No. Are you just talking about the 2 bolts that hold the caliper to the axle?
3) You mean force the caliper over the new rotor? No. The calipers were fully compressed.

I'm with this guy. It seems like that one pad is getting in a bind on the hardware it slides on. Maybe a little rust under the hardware. I'd take the bracket off the car and see if the pad slides freely back and forth. Hell, swap both brackets left to right to see if it trades sides (if thats possible) - NOTE : some are swappable and some are NOT.

Maybe the bracket mounting bolts aren't torqued down all the way??

The thin metal hardware that fits between the bracket and the pad. If its not new, it's more than likely rusty. I always lube that metal bracket so the pad can slide freely
