I'm gonna kinda hijack but over the phone the shop I am looking into seemed pretty adamant that they would have to take the carpet out (MWC 2-points) and how much labor that would add. They said they obviously have to look at it first but is there any real reason to let them even consider that?

make sure to disconnect the battery.you can prefit the SFC and remove the needed paint for welding.maybe you can find a friend with a welder, and pay them with beer.

I think $70-80 is a fair price actually.. I paid $50.. all you have to do is get the car in the air with the suspension loaded and weld in a few places.. easy

Damn, if someone quoted me $150, Id drive to the closest Harbor Freight, buy the cheapest MIG welder they had, do it myself, and save $50...

Most places around our area charge anywhere from $100-$150.

No other reason than that they are trying to add on hours for labor.
I'd run stay away from the place, or atleast the person that answered the phone.

I 'd agree since for a shop it 'd be about an hour or so of work.

Not sure the validity of this worry, but people used to think that the carpet could catch fire from the heat when welding in subframe connectors. That's probably why they want to pull it.

I had some frames welded on my former LT1 at a reputable speed shop in 2002. They wanted the carpet removed as well. I pulled the carpet myself before taking it to the shop. Takes about an hour. So, do it yourself to save some $$.
