Can I do a poly tranny mount without doing motor mounts?
I have my transmission out being built and i need to replace the mount. Can I get away with just doing the tranny mount for now or do I need to do the motor mounts as well?

Okay, well perhaps I'll put in both depending on how long the tranny takes and if I can get a hoist. Is there a place that should have them locally like autozone or are those crap?

My car 2001 SS M-6 i have poly motor mounts, and did the tranny poly mount, i had to take the tranny mount out and replace it with a "new" GM tranny mount, the poly mount made the inside of my car vibrate, dash and center console, the Poly motor mounts do a good job at keeping the motor tight,
IMOP do the Poly motor mounts and instal a new GM tranny mount, my car has no vibrations now and is tight

There is a write up around here somewhere, just put a jack under the oil pan and jack it until it is supporting the motor, make sure you put some wood on the jack so you dont bust a hole in your pan.

I'm going to try that. I have poly all the way around and it literally drives me crazy. Just enough vibration to make it miserable. I need the poly motor mounts (big tube headers), but I'm betting your right on going back to the GM trans mount.

My 87 T-type has a LS2 and paxton novi 2000 superchager system, i bought the BRP G-body LSX conversion kit and headers, it came with custome poly motor mounts (nice pieces) and a energy suspension poly tranny mount and shims, Since the Buick is a automatic (4L65-E) not sure how bad its going to vibrate if it does at all. Car doesnt run yett, But from what i heard the 3rd gen and 4th gen F-bodies vibrate when a polly tranny mount is installed on M-6 cars, not sure about auto cars

Since you don't have the tranny in the car at the moment, I would wait until you get the tranny back in, so it will give the engine some support. Then use a jack and a 2x4 under the oil pan, and do the engine mounts one at a time. Just my $0.02 worth, I think you'll be safer (both for you as well as the car) doing it that way.

Our motor mounts wear out. They get sloppy from age and sometimes the rubber inside them tears and doesn't hold on much at all. This lets the motor rock around under the hood pretty good....especially under load and/or WOT. You have 3 main points holding your drivetrain in: the two motor mounts, and the tranny mount, in a sort of triangular foot print. If the motor mounts have worn, then everything rotates left and right on the trans tail. If you take away the soft rubber give of the trans mount and replace it with poly, then the trans mount will be holding the engine from rotating. When this mount is mounted on a bolted on tailshaft, it can cause this tailshaft to crack. I would recommend keeping motor mounts stiffer then your tranny mount for this reason. And besides, a poly tranny mount is one of the most complained about mods on this entire website. Why anyone would have one on a street car is beyond me. If you need a new mount, a stock rubber one gets my vote.
