Default First time shock buyer

I need some suggestions. Since 2 of the main suspension sponsors don't want to return my pm's or want my money...

I need to get set of decent shocks.

I'll be on cut stock springs.

I want belsteins but heard they aren't the best choice while being lowered.

What's the difference between the hd's and slp's?

Thank you!

I believe their was a deal going on where if you bought some koni's you get a free set of springs, **** having cut stockers.

It's a great deal but don't have the coin. Have you personally ran cut springs?

See sig pic - Im running Bilstein HDs

Sam Strano or WS6store will have the best service and prices

HD vs SLPs - doesnt matter, they're essentially the same. Go with whichever is cheapest

Bilsteins will be fine if your cut springs lower you 1" or less.

Don't cheap out with cut springs. It won't improve the handling of the car, which will kind of defeat the purpose of upgrading the shocks.

I can vouch for Sam Strano. Great guy to deal with, I have his springs with a set of Koni shocks and Strano swaybars. One of the best mods I've ever done on my car.

I went with the Bilsteins and have been very pleased with the performance (relative to the crappy stock Decarbons).

Can't vouch for the ride quality on cut springs, however the general concensus seems to be that you'll still be OK if you only lower around an inch.

Thanks for the input everyone.

How are eldebrock shocks? Previous owner put some in the rear I'd rather nit replace them if need be.

Another vote for not cutting your stock springs. Check the classifieds section on here, I always see springs for sale, shocks too.

If youre on a budget, I would still try to at least get Bilsteins.

Just got bilstiens for my zam, ordered the HD's from ws6store and they sent me SLP version (same thing happened to others it seems) but they are the best for cost/performance, other places charge a little more. I did the rears first and drove around, every time I hit a bump the fronts sounded like my car was falling apart, when the same bump hit the rear bilsteins it was if the bump wasnt there... definitely tightened my car up.

People say bilsteins with 1" lowering springs will wear them out in a year, but I think that's total bullshit. Just a buncha hoopla from vendors trying to shill as much money as possible, or people who bought koni's trying to justify their purchase. I'm sure if you drive it on the track every weekend or as a profession you might see a difference but bleh.

my 0.02

Thanks for the replies guys.

Ended up getting a set of BMR lowering springs nib from a member. Ordered a set of belsteins for the fronts and I'm going to reuse the eldebrocks in the rear.

Anything else I'll need for the install?

Adjustable pan hard bar for the rear when lowering.
