So I need to replace my rotors and pads on my Z28.

My first choice was to do Hawk HPS pads and the ws6store.com drilled and slotted rotors.

My second choice is the C5 Vette Conversion from ws6store.com considering it is only about $500 more dollars.


My car is driven about two thousand miles per year and garaged. And by next summer or so I am planning on putting a D1sc on it so the extra stopping power would def be nice.

What do all of you think?? Anyone done the c5 conversion before and have any feedback about it?

How hard was the install? Is it as straight forward as changing brakes or more complicated?

I did them. I used UMI adapters, kept my Camaro calipers.
Make sure you use C5 pads (even with Camaro calipers).
Camaro pads are offset and will run off the outer edge of C5 rotor.

It was a great investment. I'd definitely recommend it.

I never did any official tests, but it does stop a hell of a lot better.

If you do get the kit, find some LT1 spindles (dirt cheap) and sell off your whole LS1 spindle, calipers and brackets to someone wanting to upgrade.
You get some of your money back.

+1. I have since then put on C5 Calipers and Russell Steel braided lines and I am thinking of going back to my Camaro calipers.

+1 on the C6Z calipers. That's also on my to do list, but 18" wheels are needed first.

I just looked at the link that 02TransAm posted.

I do think the kit is worth it, and have noticed an increase in stopping distance (as well as pad life). I pieced mine together, so it was basically caliper brackets, adapter and rotors that were needed. I rebuilt & painted the C5 calipers, since they were out of the car. Now that I have the Camaro calipers out, I'll probably rebuild & paint them then swap them back on to the front.

^ i just looked at the link posted to and i understand what your saying but just like acceleration, deceleration has to be set up too. c5 brakes comes with much more benefit than just greater braking power. camaros and trans ams have plenty of actual stopping power. its the larger heavier rotor that allows it to take more abuse before over heating and failing. so from a road race stand point its a great upgrade.

I have the c5 brakes on my SS. I dint notice much improvement on stopping distance though. My previous rotors where wrapped and from reading on here, it's suppose to be a common problem. So, I upgraded. From what I've read you'll feel the biggest difference if you do any type of road racing.

i have an lt1.......... im getting some ls1 calipers, corvette caliper bracket, and corvette rotors....... bigger rotors and bigger piston calipers!!! all for around 250.00

Off topic: I bought a set of corvette caliper brackets from engineered velocity a long time ago but sold them because I scratched that idea. Anyone else have luck with their brackets?

You still need the Vette Caliper brackets and pads, if you decide to stay with the Camaro calipers.

I have this kit on my formula and it makes it very easy to stop from high speeds at the track and its smooth. I am however looking to sell it to go to stock LS1 brake setup because of wanting to go to a smaller wheel on my drag pack.

are you sure about this....using C5 pads with camaro ls1 calipers? I thought the same when I ordered C5 drilled and slotted rotors, I got the C5 pads for my LS1 calipers, then I was told they wouldn't work so I sent them back and got LS1 camaro pads.

I have the brackets/spacers to use my stock LS1 caliper with the C5 rotors.
