Default torque arm break!!!

i have a spohn torque arm that just broke on me and i still have the slip in rubber dampener, it is at the flat metal section of the arm so i was thinking it would be able to be welded instead of replaced... i was just wanting to get some other views on that idea?

You...broke...a torque arm?

Holy hell. I'll ask for pics as well though, make sure it's some place that'll take to welding.

I snapped a chrome moly spohn like a twig on a launch @ the track.
Search it here, not unheard of.

My torque arm failure
2nd pic is the stripped & twisted front yoke.

In the end the yokes front & back, trans mainshaft, abs sensor, & universals all junk.

Twisted yoke is from a good, sticky, high horsepower launch, my guess. I have seen a ton of axles like that...and even a couple of pinions. Believe it or not, as long as you don't swap directions (not possible on that part), that thing will probably last a long time. I ran an input gear on a trans like that for two years before I changed it. Scared me everytime I dropped the hammer, but it never did fail.

I would contact Spohn and get their input. That is such a clean break, it makes me wonder what's going on there. To be honest, I would be surprised if they didn't stand behind that.

It was the original Spohn floor mounted chrome moly arm.
It was a hard launch on slicks. The car came up as usuall, then hit the limiter & front fell hard.
Thought I broke the rear end.
Pushed it off the track onto the trailer then realized what happened.

The trans repair was the worst part. Yes it was close to Armageddon LOL.
Still have a nice dent in the driveshaft tunnel fron the top of the arm/rearend hitting it.

I have to say they stood behind it though.
They sent me the replacement piece no questions. That was nice of them to do that.
But I reassembled the arm & promptly sold it.

For the OP, it sounds like the arm he has is a much older version.
I dont know if they'll help you.

I know now Spohn offers a "pro-series" torque arm.
Much more suited for drag racing & hard launches.
Wish they made it back when I had mine.
