Default Any reason to NOT just get new factory motor mounts......

My motor mounts are 14+ years old......putting new motor in soon, what should I get. Factory ones again or is there something thats better.

Its just a street car, never a drag racer. So I don't really need anything crazy.......

EDIT: iron 408ci, 94mm single turbo, 4L80E.......it WILL make more than 1,000 RWHP. 1,200 RWHP is the goal. 100% street car on street radials and street drags. NEVER a drag track launch.......

Thanks.

(((and no, I really never looked into aftermarket motor mounts, never had a reason to learn about them.)))

Whats the benefit/advantage of poly over factory rubber?

Is solid mounts only for strict racing set-ups?

Whatever you do, do NOT go solids for your application. Search the forum and you'll get more information.

I replaced mine with oem rubber. Poly mounts can and will vibrate even if you run a poly trans mount too.

One reason people upgrade to poly is to keep long tube collectors and Y pipe from banging in to the floor, causing issues with the knock sensors and engine timing.

I see.....I've had my LT's on for 10+ years.....plenty of clearance, no issues.

Your mileage may vary, some people have the issue, some don't. It definitely vibrates more with poly, if you don't have to I wouldn't.

This ^

And I got poly engine and transmission mount bushings and I don't understand what the issue with with vibration that everyone is talking about. Do people not want to feel the power of their car/engine?

I did Poly only because I never want to do it again. Vibration is Very minimal.

No. Most people want a car that rides as smooth as possible.

Problem is you WILL need to do them again. Just like oem rubber poly mounts can and will detiorate, dryrot, rip, etc over time.

That's a thread all by itself. Tastes vary, but I've talked to plenty of people who want a car that's fast, but that is otherwise pretty restrained for cruising.

Those people bought the wrong car. They should have bought a Cadillac/Lexus/Lincoln/Mercedes/ect.

I agree with 2quickTA. If you want a smooth cruiser, get a cadillac or something of the sort. Fbody's are performance vehicles. The benefit of the poly over rubber is they flex much less, as well as last substantially longer than rubber mounts.

I would just go poly, without a doubt. The vibrations are VERY minimal, unless you are very picky you wont even notice them. I, personally, like them. I enjoy being able to feel my car.

And as far as saying these cause vibrations EVEN IF you install poly trans mounts, no kidding. Installing a poly trans mount will make it signifigantly more noticable. I do have poly on both, and again I like it. Will never go back to factory rubber bushings.

Guess I'm picky, when I do my engine upgrade, I'm putting new rubber mounts in.

You're upgrading the engine and going with rubber mounts? Maybe mine were just old but my rubber ones caused all sorts of rotation my headers, shifter, etc were moving all around.

Maybe if you were just getting a mild upgrade.. but if your going up toward like 400 hp, I don't see why you would want to get rubber.

My rubber mounts lasted 11 yrs before they started to detiorate and rip, and the car has been modded since 06'. Look at my sig. It's my DAILY DRIVER and I'm well into 400whp. No I did not want any vibrations which is why I didn't run poly mounts. If you run them and like them more power to you. The OP asked the differences and I explained poly mounts vibrate. If he is like me and doesn't want his car have vibrations (Which I would NOT associate with 'feeling the cars power' btw) then he will run oem rubber. And if he doesn't mind having vibrations he will run poly mounts.

I 'feel the cars power' just fine with my rubber mounts.

HIGHLY UNLIKELY! Let me ask......how long did your Poly mounts last before you had to replace them?
